I noticed the awful smell in the hallway before we even came across the terrible smell in the room itself; it smelled like cat urine so badly we had to air it out with the temperature below freezing. The room was very small and poorly designed and cost FAR too much for what we got. And that a Jungle Jim was the only food option was also disappointing. I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

Our room smelled so bad from the chemical used to cover up the other stench that our noses and throats burned. The floor was rotten under the old carpet, so that it felt like we were going to go through the floor. The place felt so grungy, it was difficult to sleep. This place should be condemned. Also, there were no amenities, such as an iron or coffee in the room.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw poor and terrible reviews for this place. The rooms are nice and the place is very quiet. It's not a high class hotel that you would find in a major city..but for where it's located it's very nicely kept. I would definitely recommend this to anyone for a quiet nights rest.

We stayed at the Driftwood Inn after a really rough Gulf crossing. We were delayed by almost 4 hours and were exhausted by the time we reached Deer Lake. I had booked the room earlier in the day, but as we drove through the night I was reading the negative reviews on TripAdvisor and was expecting to find a real dive. Boy, was I surprised when we arrived!! Behind the faux-Tudor exterior, this hotel has been completely renovated in the last few months. The night check-in agent was friendly and helpful, even at 3 in the morning. The hotel is in a quiet area, away from the highway. It looks, and smells, clean, clean, clean. The room appears to have been enlarged, and completely refurbished. Nice colors, tasteful furniture, immaculate bathroom with rainshower. Brushed nickle fixtures throughout. Light blocking draperies, clean carpeting, and flat screen TV. New single serving coffee perks. Pilowtop mattresses. My advice to anyone needing to stay in Deer Lake is to ignore earlier posts about this property being run down. The owners have obviously spent time and money to upgrade, and it shows. At 104.00/ night for a double room, it was by far the most value for money at any property we stayed at on our vacation, just arriving from PEI and NS.
