“Avoid Block #7”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

What a nightmare. Booked 2 suites on the ocean. Had 2 hotel rooms in this block under construction for 8 days over Christmas. The noise and mess were unbelievable from the construction. "Wet paint signs on unpainted elevator doors!!!! Were told there was a sea view -we were a 1/4km from the sea with a small glimpse of the water = sea view.
Understood there was a partial kitchen - a small fridge, a toaster and a drawer of crockery and utensils for 3 people was the complete "partial kitchen". Dishes were rinsed in the bathroom. Rooms were dirty when we moved in.
Requests for changes were ignored. Most of the staff said they were new and had no idea how to sort out requests.
Common areas in Block# 7 were filthy. Holes in sheets and blankets. Workmen left tools lying plugged in overnight. One of the gas fires needed repair. Handles fell off cupboard drawers. One of the patio doro handles came off as it was being opened. Some of the staff were unpleasant.
At night you could hear the neighbours snoring or fighting!!!
Overpriced resturant on site.

“Relaxing resort for a getaway.”

This was our 3rd stay here, but first time in a 2 bdrm with a partial kitchen. If you do not plan to cook much, then this would be sufficient. Otherwise, a full kitchen would be best. The partial kitchen did not have the toaster oven that I was told it would have, there is a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster. So you will need to be resourceful in what you cook.

The single bathroom is small compared to the other suites that we Have had before. There was a sofa bed opposite the kitchen and 2 TUBE TVs. Lastly, I think that it was this unit only, where we could hear the downstairs group through the connecting door and floors.

Enjoyed the warm pool, hot hot tub and sauna. There is a nice fish tank in the restaurant, ample parking, and a full service spa.

“Just Okay”

I was looking so forward to some total R&R for a couple of days. Late November and it was very uninhabited by people. I got the smaller room as it was just me. Room was clean but average feeling, not a five star and near the elevator. Anyway, I was amazed at the clarity in which I could hear the people in the room next to me. Entire conversations and they were not even talking loud. I had to turn the TV up to not hear them. That was unpleasant. Now I know what "paper thin walls" means. And, why would they put people so close to one another when so many rooms were not in use? The grounds and hallway were very clean. I had two visits to the spa. My first was the Thursday special with the facial and massage combined - ABSOLUTELY wonderful. The second was on the Friday, a spiritual massage, my head hurt for days afterward. The masseuse seemed to think I needed to have the back of my head rubbed aggressively. It was just painful. She was very firm in her style so the "relax" part kind of fell away and I was glad to be done with that one. So, back to my little room afterwards, listened to the neighbours chat. At least they were nice people and went to bed at 11ish. I won't stay there again (because of the "paper thin" walls), but I might go back for the Thursday facial/massage combo.

Room Tip: I'd say ask for a top room away from the elevator and mention that if it's not a busy time...

“Beautiful room, nice views”

We stayed in a one room suite in the new 700 block. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. They faced a river estuary and provided ocean views. The hotel restraunt was pricey but the food and service were worth it. The resort was also very close to the Rocking Horse pub, which is a great little hideaway place to eat. The resort also had a fairly respectable gym, which is a plus. We will definately stay there again.

“Rekindle the Romance: chocolate couples spa”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

My partner and I enjoyed the Rekindle the Romance spa package. The facility is very clean, nicely decorated and very relaxing. The treatment room we were in was nicely lit and a good temperature for getting an hour-long massage in. The chocolate massage oil was mouth watering. After the massage we had a spa lunch. We got to choose from a salad, wrap or pizza. It was enough to satisfy, but might not fill up a hungry person. Afterwards it was time for the salt scrub. It felt very invigorating, but felt a bit short (maybe 5-7 minutes). The chocolate truffles and chocolate martinis were amazing as we soaked in the granite tub. They weren't kidding when they said the polished rock was slippery. We sloshed around for the allotted soak time; sadly what felt like only 10 minutes. Personally I would have liked at least 30 minutes, or even longer if the room wasn't booked right afterwards.
Good:
- Location
- Professionalism and friendly staff
- Cleanliness
- variety of treatments

Dislikes:
- Treatment room with granite tub is directly below their kitchen and I found noise transfer from above distracting from the relaxing spa music they were playing. If i were to go back I would prefer to use a different room.
- Would have really enjoyed if they had a steam/sauna room to use before or after treatment.
- Less of a rushed feel with the tub soak.

They had a coupon for 25% off a service. But we didn't realize that this actually means one of the components of the "package." It would be nice if they specified this on their web site or when we inquired on the phone. Overall it was a good experience, but with the few down-sides I felt the price was more than what it should have cost.
