“If you want good service and clean room, stay here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

Continueing with my northern business travel, I had the Sandman Inn Terrace, offered to make me a reservation at the Smithers Sandman. I remember where it was located. (beside a Tim Hortons) this could be good and bad. My stay was exceptional.
Throughout my stay the front desk always made sure to say hello and ask how I was doing? If it wasnt conveinent enough to have a Tim Hortons next door; the hotel also has a coffee station in the lobby, big help for my early morning business. The hotel was very comfortable and like I say with all my other reviews; Sandman has been a good choice throughout my travels. The community of Smithers is a very beautiful place too. I had the chance to escape for a bite to eat to a local bistro (Alpenhorn). This restaurant didnt disappoint, great recommendation by the staff and locals.

“Avoid This Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

The hotel is situated alongside a 24hrs Tim Horton and on the corner of two main highways controlled by traffic lights.
We had been booked into the hotel by travel agents but we were allocated a room looking over the Tim Horton cash desk and vehicle lane. With the prospect of two nights disturbed by intercom system, idling engines and vehicle lights we asked to be moved. The desk clerk refused so we left and booked in to the Aspen Motel.
We have travelled extensively in Canada and know the Sandman chain well. In fact we had stayed at Sandman,Quesnel the evening before.

No restaurant.

“The worst customer service....ever!”

My son and I were on a road trip from Oregon to Homer, AK. After driving all day (10am - 2am) we arrived at the hotel we reserved the night before through Expedia. The owner opened the door for us after we pushed the outside doorbell, barefoot and disheveled. He took my name and looked through his records, having a very hard time understanding my last name (Miller). I finally wrote it down for him. He couldn't find our reservation anywhere.

I told him I reserved the room through Expedia and had the itinerary number. I asked if there was a computer with a printer I could use to print out the reservation confirmation. "No." The hotel website says they have wi-fi so I asked if I could get my laptop, log on and show the reservation confirmation to him. "No. You can only get it in the room." He kept saying I had "no proof but he wouldn't allow me a way to show him any proof. I asked if he had Expedia's phone number so he could confirm through them. "No."

He asked how much I was quoted for the room. "$99 for a room w/ 2 beds." He looked again and just happened to find an available room with two beds and a kitchen for $119. I told him I wasn't interested in paying more money for a room I already reserved for $99.

Then he asked, "What time is it?" I blurted out, "2am," and then he said, "I get up at 7am every morning and 2am makes for quite a long day." I said I'd been on the road since 10am. He said, "That's your pleasure. This is my business."

He was extremely rude and condescending and was basically calling me a liar while trying to get me to take a room for $19 more.

I turned around and left and we stayed across the street at a very nice place with a very polite front desk person who even gave us a break on the rate and late check-out since we were arriving so late.

“Very disappointing”

The rooms are very dated, small and noisy. The front desk is only staffed for part of the day. I booked this hotel because of the "fitness centre" but it was a complete joke. One night was more than enough for me - I will not be back.

“Very Pet-friendly and extremely clean”

My Fiancee and my pooch stayed here for one night recently, and it was excellent. I find most hotels make you feel like you are storing nuclear waste when you have a dog. Not so with the Smithers Sandman Inn. Our dog was made to feel welcome and even received a treat upon our arrival. The owner obviously loves dogs as there were quite a few in the hotel and she takes a picture of your pooch when you depart.

The rooms were very clean! Probably one of the cleanest hotel rooms I have ever seen. There is a mini-fridge, a microwave, and the remote actually works. The air conditioner kept the room nice and cool and it was a very quiet room. Tim Horton's is right next door for your munchies.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone with a dog or anyone on their way to Prince Rupert as Smithers is a great place to stay. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and services.
