My son and I were on a road trip from Oregon to Homer, AK. After driving all day (10am - 2am) we arrived at the hotel we reserved the night before through Expedia. The owner opened the door for us after we pushed the outside doorbell, barefoot and disheveled. He took my name and looked through his records, having a very hard time understanding my last name (Miller). I finally wrote it down for him. He couldn't find our reservation anywhere.
I told him I reserved the room through Expedia and had the itinerary number. I asked if there was a computer with a printer I could use to print out the reservation confirmation. "No." The hotel website says they have wi-fi so I asked if I could get my laptop, log on and show the reservation confirmation to him. "No. You can only get it in the room." He kept saying I had "no proof but he wouldn't allow me a way to show him any proof. I asked if he had Expedia's phone number so he could confirm through them. "No."
He asked how much I was quoted for the room. "$99 for a room w/ 2 beds." He looked again and just happened to find an available room with two beds and a kitchen for $119. I told him I wasn't interested in paying more money for a room I already reserved for $99.
Then he asked, "What time is it?" I blurted out, "2am," and then he said, "I get up at 7am every morning and 2am makes for quite a long day." I said I'd been on the road since 10am. He said, "That's your pleasure. This is my business."
He was extremely rude and condescending and was basically calling me a liar while trying to get me to take a room for $19 more.
I turned around and left and we stayed across the street at a very nice place with a very polite front desk person who even gave us a break on the rate and late check-out since we were arriving so late.
