“Perfect location for Snowmobiling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The Blue River Sandman is clean & comfortable. Recently renovated with an excellent on-site restaurant (Tony's Grill). Staff were pleasant and very helpful. We stayed during the week between Christmas and New Year's. They had very limited availability but were very accommodating. This location was perfect for sledding. You could leave from the parking lot or drive 1/2 hr north or south to more trail heads. However they do not have a drying room or hot tub.

Room Tip: They have kitchenettes

I would like thank you very much for your great review. We try hard to make all of our guests as comfortable and welcome as possible. The winter season brings us many snowmobilers and we enjoy their company.

“Pleasant stopover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Love this hotel and restaurant. Have stayed here a couple of times now on trips between Vernon and Edmonton. It is very clean, quiet and the front desk staff always go out of their way to provide us with the most convenient room. They welcome pets, which I sometimes travel with and are very accommodating. The food at the restaurant is great and the kitchen is open late which works well for me since I usually arrive around 9 pm. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Love the fact that they have fridges and microwaves in some rooms.

“We only stayed to break up the journey...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

.....but should we have contiued our drive into the night?

We were charged a fee on our credit card incase or breakages - but we were told it would vanish by the time we got home (so I will see when I get my bill). We were charged this pre authorisation fee at a couple of the hotels that were in the middle of nowhere but not in the city hotels?!

It did feel like something from a film when we first pulled up, like 'the wrong turn' or 'the hills have eyes' but we had paid and were tired so we stayed. If we hadn't we wouldn't.

We went in the dinner, only to kill the last hour before we could sleep. Wouldn't recommend.

“Very comfortable and well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

The Blue River Sandman is a clean comfortable recently renovated motel, with an excellent on-site restaurant (Tony's Grill). We enjoyed our stay there. One thing to be aware of - although wifi internet is part of the package, it is satellite based and VERY intermitent. It was so slow that we were not able to get on at all during an overnight stay. This is the ONLY negative about this lodging, and it is not really the fault of the hotel. Staff are wonderful and most accommodating.

“Great spot when stuck in Blue River”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

I was merrily on my way, moving to Vancouver (from Edmonton) with all my possessions on the 26 ft U-haul truck (which was also pulling a trailer with a car on it) and a rear tire blew just 10 km out of Blue River at 10PM on a Friday night. It was a very stressful experience, not because I was being eaten alive by mosquitoes while trying to get my car off the trailer in the dark… but because my wife was driving in another vehicle pulling another trailer and she was missing, and there was NO cell service for the next 150Km!! After a trying for a good 1.5 hours I managed to get the high-centred car off the trailer and then headed off to find my wife who was hopefully just up ahead waiting for me… After 2 hours searching motels and gas stations for 100Km I assumed the worst, and that she was also assuming the worst of my situation. At midnight I discovered the helpful managers of the Sandman Inn in Blue River and was luckily able to secure their last room. Stephen was extremely helpful with suggestions regarding my situation and had the brainwave to check with the RCMP. At around 2 AM my wife was located and all was well with her. My room at the Sandman was newly renovated and spotless and I couldn’t believe all the amenities for the cost effective price I paid. It unfortunately took u-haul around 18 hours to repair their truck and the managers took many many coordination calls from u-haul and patiently attempted to find me in the restaurant and out in the parking lot. They went far beyond the call of duty to assist with the situation.
