“Unfeeling cheapskates”

We were staying in Stony Plain to attend my father's burial in nearby Wildwood. We booked Travelodge because we thought my aunt (dad's sister) who lives in Stony Plain was already putting up other relatives for the night. When this fell through we didn't want her to be alone so we tried to cancel our reservations and stay with our aunt. I know there is usually a 24 hour policy but I would have thought on compassionate grounds they might let us off the hook. After some discussion they begrudgingly offered us half our money back, and would not do better despite all pleas. I guess they only had a 50% understanding of compassion or are perhaps near bankruptcy and couldn't afford to be fully compassionate. They really taught us a lesson about being more considerate to the hotel the next time an immediate relative dies.

“Lousy Breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

The reason we picked this hotel was because it was near to a family member's house where we were spending time for Christmas. We are not big fans of suburbia whether at home or traveling so we didn't really care about the sites in the area.

The room of the hotel itself was OK for the money but when you are promised a breakfast and that was a selling feature for us, then provide a breakfast! The only thing that was available at 9am was the waffle machine and some dry cereal. No fruit or yoghurt. There were some eggs I didn't trust and juice from a machine. No hot water for tea.

I would like to thank you for writing a review and I am extremley sorry that your stay with us was not satisfactory. At this time I have looked into this and will make sure that this issue does not occur again.

We serve a very nice breakfast here from what we have been told by many guests over the years and it is upsetting to know that a guest(s) of ours was not happy with it.

Again I thank you for your review as I truly believe we can learn from these and make changes from them.
I hope in the future you will consider staying with us at the Travelodge Hotel Stony Plain.

Thank you,
Stacy Matvichuk

“best value in Stony Plain/Spruce Grove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2011

I've stayed at other hotels in the area and this is the best, espcecially considering the very reasonable price: pool, whirlpool (with new towels!), small but well-equipped exercise room, very friendly staff, and the best breakfast selection around. Very good value.

“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

Stayed there for one night after a long days drive. The hotel is located not too far off of highway 16 just west of Edmonton and right next to a 24 hour Tim Horton's and the ABC Country Restaurant. The staff were very friendly. There's a pool, fitness room and free high speed internet (must use a cable). My room was very clean, it had a king size bed, couch, mini fridge, tv and a quite heater with a digital thermostat on the wall. I had one of the best nights sleep in a hotel. It was very quite there especially considering it was a Friday night. The free continental breakfast was plenty. Alternatively you could walk across the parking lot to the ABC Country Restaurant or Timmy's. There's also a Safeway just across the street. All this for $100 / night. Highly recommended.

Close to West Edmonton Mall, so great location for shopping. Easy access in and out of hotel.
