I was a liitle scary to look for accomodation when I read the reviews about this northern Alberta town. So, I have not reserved in advance but visited some motels and asked to see the rooms.
I have stayed in two motels here: Stardust and Flamingo and both had renovated clean and spacious rooms.
In the Stardust the rate was 99 CAD + tax. But I have paid much ore in other places for rooms that were not like I got here.
I got everything in the very spacious room: kitchen, seperate living area and bedroom, completely renovated bathroom, wireless internet, airco, good working heating, even a ceiling fan, fridge, microwave, electric cooking possibility, and so on.
I don't understand the bad reviews before! The motel is privately owned and the manager is present there andvery helpfull with all demands.
The town itself has a bit of industrial look because it is not living from tourism but from industry (forestry and oil and gas).
The only unfriendly people you meet are indians who are not working and hanging around. But that is not only a problem in High Level alone.
So, my impression: if you travel the north you can have a good stay here!
