“Overpriced, yesterday's breakfast today, limited menu”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

As with most everything in northern Alberta prices are ridiculously inflated. Two teensie pieces of fish, a few fries, and a beer = near $30. And then there's the breakfast buffet - tried it both days that we were there. Both days it was not laid out and ready to go until well after the posted time. The pancakes that looked old and curled on the edges looked even worse on day two. I'm sure I recognized some of the bacon and sausages from day one, still laying in the warming tray on day two. I never knew that the contents of one of those little individual 'jam packs' could congeal to such an extent that it was less than a third full and the 'glop' ('cause it sure wasn't jam) was unspreadable. As to the 'fresh' fruit... not so much. Room was OK but certainly overpriced. Were it not for the 'take what you can get' state of affairs in northern Alberta at present I certainly wouldn't be going back.

Hello Ianewe,

I'm sorry to hear that your experience wasn't as top notch as we would like it to be. You are right, prices in the north are high, I see it every time myself when I have to get groceries or pay my rent. Unfortunately this is also the case when the restaurant purchases food. As you can imagine, the cost of labour is extremely high as well. All of those factors determine the price of a meal. But I do agree with you that all that taken in consideration the quality of food and level of service must be high. Thanks to feedback like yours, we can train our staff more precisely and job specifically and hopefully will be able to have a better product soon. We do have a number of new folks starting next month and plan to expand our breakfast options to not only offer buffet but also have a breakfast menu available.

“Great property in an area with limited choices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

They have three sections, an upstairs new area, downstairs older and an outside access motel type, so request accordingly. I had the pleasure of staying in a new room, have to say it was one of the better ones and outdid Hampton and Holiday Inn. Unfortunately a few weeks later I returned and was placed in the older section and can honestly say I would not stay in those rooms again.

Room Tip: Request indoors upstairs...newly renovated with great beds.

“Smoky, No Breakfast, Motel Style Rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

This hotel claims to be newly renovated, but all they renovated was the lobby. The rooms are still old and stink of cigarette smoke..... even though they claim to be a smoke free establishment. They DO NOT OFFER BREAKFAST anymore!

They have 2 buildings. One of the buildings, is a Motel Style set up. You will be hearing doors slamming all day and night and it is full of partiers and sketchy people. I personally do not feel safe staying in those rooms. If I wanted to stay in a Motel, I would have booked one. The Motel rooms are the regular priced rooms. For rooms in the main building, you have to pay more for an upgraded room.

“Watch for the cancellation policy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2011

I had to travel to Cold Lake for business with two colleagues and booked three rooms for one night. At around 1pm I found out that one colleague was not going to make it to Cold Lake so I needed to cancel his room. As I talked to the hotel and told them that one room was not going to be required they indicated to me that since I did not cancel the room by 4:00pm the day before that I would be charged for the room. I can understand this policy being in place when the hotel is at full capacity at a high season and when there is no chance that the room could be rented out for that night. When we arrived at the hotel and I was being charged for the third room, the clerk was not going to give me a key for the third room. As I explained to the clerk, if I am paying for a room that I am not staying in, there is no way in hell that I am leaving it available for you to re-rent. Upon checking into the rooms I looked closely at the bedding and am glad that the one colleague did not make it as the amount of hair on one of the bed in the sheets was alarming.
The hotel itself is recently renovated and the rooms are decent. There is a sawmill restaurant and lounge on site and a pool and hot tub. Parking is tight and there is no continental breakfast.
You may want to check out the Ramada in Cold Lake prior to staying here..

“under construction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

They are almost done the renovations but it is not very welcoming right now. It is very confusing on where to go, where to park and they are definelty having growing pains. I wish I would have stayed somewhere else this trip. To make things better upon check in, they said they would gibe me an upgraded room. When I entered the room, it wasn't finished being cleaned, so it was back down to the desk. Then then gave me an even more upgraded room. The restaurant isn't completed yet either. The staff was good but if you are expecting a great experience, I would wait a few months.
