“Never Been Renovated, Old & Tired, similar to a Motel 6”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

I have stayed here several times just to get triple Marriott points (I have a Marriott CC). This property is probably the worst Fairfield I have ever stayed in. Marriott is really hurting this brand by not making properties renovate. This is definately not in the same class as Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn. This is more in line with Super 8 & Motel 6. You have many better choices when staying in Minot

“Check -in a very bad experience. Staff not up to par.”

After driving 11 hours from Newcastle SD we telephone the Fairfield for direction and neither young girl new the city of Minot well enough to get us to the hotel. We relied on service stations along the way to get us there. At check-in these two girls were less than helpful. Preferred to hide in a back room or both would go outside and smoke. Room was satisfactory. Morning staff was not much more helpful with regard to leaving the city or having the breakfast appliances turned on and ready.

“Stay at Holiday Inn Express instead”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

We stayed here because the above mentioned hotel had no rooms left. The staff is the only good thing about this hotel. They are all really nice. Unfortunately, the place just needs a complete overhaul and updates. Either that, or they need to lower their room rate by half and they would get way less complaints. The furniture is dated and stained/worn. Out of the four lamps in my room, there was not a matched pair or matching lampshades. The the television is old and not positioned high enough for viewing while in laying in bed. It was the hardest, most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on. They don't clean the corners of the room or very far under the bed. Yuck! I have learned my lesson and will not wait so long to reserve a room at our usual HI Express for next time.

“Decent Place to stay in Minot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

Decent place to stay in Minot. Standard hotel, but we had good service from the evening manager. The room has thin walls and we heard every door close.

“Service best thing about this place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2010

I stayed here for 8 days for business. When I first checked in, the hotel started at 4.5 stars out of five. By the time I left, it was 2.5 stars. This review is one of the longer ones, but if you are staying here for the length I was, I think it's nice to know what to expect.

Pros:
1. Staff went above and beyond to help you with anything. They always had a smile and were super friendly.
2. The towels were so soft!
3. Bed was so comfortable - I could have stayed all day in them!
4. Free wireless internet.
5. Small microwave and mini-fridge in the rooms.
6. Location - close to the mall, if you're looking for that type of thing.

Cons:
1. The number one thing that kept chipping the rating away was the cleaniless. As the week went by, I started to notice things, such as dirt and grime on the lightswitches or blond hair on the floor (my hair is black). This is the number one con, the rest of the list are small in comparison.
2. I know I said location is a pro, but it is a con. This is what started off the hotel in mind a half star off the five star rating. This hotel is somewhat difficult to get to from the airport. I went around in circles for 15 minutes the first 2 days I was there trying to find the correct exit off the highway. This is with a map and my GPS and MapQuest directions - and no, I do not have a bad sense of directions.
3. Breakfast food, when fully stocked, was average. However, it was inconsistent. Some days there was oatmeal, some days there was not. Some days there were breakfast sandwiches, some days they ran out (even at 6:30am!). They advertised cinnamon toast at the dining place, but never did I see any.
4. Along with breakfast, I like to read USA Today newspaper while I eat. Although they have this newspaper at this hotel complimentary for the guests, it arrives late (around 8-9am) and they are not placed outside your door. Most days, I had to grab the paper when I got back from work.
5. Rooms - although cozy for a couple nights stay, it was certainly beginning to feel real small by the end of my 8 day stay! Also, I read in a review that they had flat screen TVs. My room did not have that, and the connection to the cable was loose so that every now and then the picture would go fuzzy and I would have to reach behind the old boxed TV and wiggle the cable cord.

Like other reviewers have commented, I am not sure what other hotels in the area is better. Plus it's the only Marriot in the area and I am a member. I probably will give this hotel another try when I come back for business. Hopefully the rooms are cleaner. If not I will have to go elsewhere.
