We stayed at the Ritza in Aug 2005 with three boys and mother in law and husband. Upon arrival they offered us the keys for three rooms in different areas of the hotel. Not impressed, the youngest lad is only 11yrs old. In fairness after a short but direct chat, they gave us two adjoining rooms.
The rooms were average but certainly not four star as they advertised. They were clean, the bathrooms were very nice and they were cleaned every day with the cleaners making pretty shapes with sheets and towels. Sheets were changed every couple of days which was excellent.
Food in the restaurant was very hit and miss. Breakfast was always good, a reasonable choice and always freshly cooked. Evening meals were generaly not very good. The choice was limited and the Bulgarians don't like to serve hot food, so it was generally lukewarm at best. The menu seemed more geared to the Germans and Russians even though most of the guests when we were there were English.
The pool seemed very nice if not very big when we first arrived. It didn't stink of chlorine, this was our downfall. It didn't stink of chlorine because they didn't use very much and as a result two of the boys ended up with ear infections which cost us £300 in medical bills. ( So glad I have insurance)
There is an indoor pool which is very cold and rarely used.
The 'fitness room' consists of a static bike and a cheap weights bench with 4 x 5kg weights.
If you are a gym nut like me, there is a reasonable set up in the Hotel Koral next door, which you can use for about £1.50 a session.
The staff were very good and very helpful. They only have a limited amount of English but they go out of their way to help you.
The hotel is situated at the top end of the resort and as a result is very quiet which we liked. It is not too far to walk to find the restaurants and the bars and the prices are very reasonable. For the seven of us a three course meal and drinks generally cost around £40. So if you don't fancy the hotel food you can always eat out cheaply.
In fairness to the hotel, it is a nice place, the food is OK and the staff are good. I would rate it as a reasonable to good three star, but not quite a four star.
