Hotel Sofia is located on the second line from the beach (5 min. walking). To reach the beach you need to go down on stairs, and then on a valley. The Hotel is clean, the personnel is friendly, food is marvelous. We had one night of Bulgarian cuisine and one night of Italian cuisine. The swimming pool is medium sized, but ok as the hotel is not big. Some 2 or 3 times we didn't reserve the lounger near the pool, but found them free at the noon.
We had the park view (as they call it). So it's not really the park, but the parking area. The room is not big, the bathroom is tiny, with a shower cabin and good ventilation. The air conditioner is also good, it doesn't make any noise. The room also had a TV set, which we didn't really use. Instead, there was a radio inside a stand, which broadcasted Radio Njoy in the morning and music from the hotel in the rest of the day.
The maids are, probably, lazy or they are waiting for tips. Our towels were change only 3 times per our staying. Once we left the towels on the floor in the room and thought they will be changed, but the maid put them on the floor in the bathroom. So, I went to the reception, asked for new towels, and we got them only in the evening. Our room was never cleaned in the first part of the day, but after the noon.
A very important tip. BE AWARE: Do not use the mini bar (in the fridge)!! First of all it costs. Secondly, it costs 2 times (or more) higher than the beverages in the supermarkets. Our mini bar was filled 4 times. Don't know why, the maid skipped this 4th time on the sheet, and when we were checking out, we were invoiced with 220 levs for the mini bar. As we did not consume the alcoholic beverages, we paid 48 levs for our consumption. The receptionist was okey with that 48 leva, then she said that we consumed for 89 leva. You see, that is a not very ethic and normal policy, as we bought all inclusive option. And instead of using the mini bar, go in the lobby or at the pool bar and drink as much as you want. The guy @ the pool bar was very, but very nice.
A very important value of the hotel is that the beverages during your meals are free. At lunch and dinner you may have white and red Bulgarian wine and beer :)) Also, there is always ice cream @ lunch and dinner.
The animation is poor. There is a small sandy stadium for playing football or volley. There are also some training devices and some of them are not even working.
The beach is clean and larger than in the northern part of the resort. If you come on the beach before 9.00 AM, you'll have a chance to sit next to the sea, free of charge. The price for lounger is 8 levs, umbrella - 8 levs and a mattress - 3 levs.
The prices for Bulgarian rose cosmetics are cheaper at the supermarkets.
We had also visited the Aquapolis Aqua park, which is not far from the hotel, but you'll have to climb the hill between the hotels. The entrance ticket is 33 levs for adults. Also if you want to stay on a lounger you have to pay 5 levs.
Something about sleep quality: Golden Sands is not so noisy as Sunny Beach, so we slept with the balcony door open, but in the last 2 days we had neighbors, some adolescent guys from Germany, which were yelling at night, running through the corridors, they broke a window, took the fire extinguisher etc etc. Besides, they have stolen a chair from our balcony, as the separation wall is not high. I haven't seen anybody from the hotel addressing to them, and asking to shut up. This hotel had a lot of German guests.
The conclusion is that we really enjoyed the sea, the weather (which was sunny) and the hotel.
