Sunny Beauty is located in the Sunny Beach resort of Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast. The resort itself is very clean and has everything you need whether you are looking for a quiet break, a family holiday or a lively party resort. You feel safe walking around any part of the resort day and night. We were there on a family holiday and everywhere we went children were welcomed.
This hotel consists of air conditioned, self catering accommodation with a small swimming pool, a very basic gym, bar and restaurant. The rooms do have small safety deposit boxes as advertised in the Balkan Holidays brochure but there is a local charge of 6 Lev (£3) per day which is not mentioned in the brochure. It also has free WiFi but it doesn’t always work and when it does work the signal is poor to non-existent in the bedrooms. I stood in the reception to pick up and send emails which I didn’t mind as it was better than paying my mobile phone roaming charges.
We had a look at some reviews on websites before coming and in a lot of them there were photos of a building site to the rear of the hotel which is where the pool is located. The building has come on a lot since those photos were taken but still nowhere near finished. Most reports were saying that building work started after 9am so it wasn’t a problem but in our time there no building work took place so don’t be put off by that.
Sunny Beauty Hotel is located about a 5-10 minute walk from the beach. For a family, the location is ideal because there are shops and restaurants nearby as well as a bus stop at the end of the road if you wish to venture further afield. Everything in the resort is within walking distance even for my 2 year old but yet far enough away from the noise of the resort.
We found the hotel restaurant to be slightly dearer than other places and the quality was not as good as most places. Saying that, it really doesn’t matter because step out of the hotel door and there are plenty of other places to choose. Our favourite for quality and value was The Pacific Hotel which is just over the road to Sunny Beauty.
Although it wasn’t a problem for us, the beds may be an issue for some people in this hotel. The main bed is extremely low – about 8 inches off the floor. I have included a photograph to demonstrate this and a 1.5 litre bottle of water stands taller than the bed. The pull down bed in the living room is extremely hard. It was ok for my 5 and 2 year old as they don’t care where they sleep but for bigger children I think this may be a problem.
The only reason I have marked this hotel down is due to the hotel’s attitude towards maintenance.
On arrival we noticed that the toilet seat was hanging on by a thread and was prone to moving a lot. This was reported to staff immediately as we considered it could be dangerous for our two young children. Despite our best efforts the toilet seat remained in the same condition for the duration of our stay.
On our first day we realised that the air conditioning unit in the bedroom wasn’t working. We reported this to the hotel staff who tried to get it working but couldn’t. They told us that someone would see to it in the morning. We were unable to get anyone to fix this either.
On our second day we went to open our safety deposit box (located under the kitchen sink) which had over a £1000 worth of digital camera equipment in it and were horrified to find the deposit box surrounded in water from the sink outlet pipe. Luckily the water had not penetrated the security box. Again we were told that this would be fixed but as you have probably guessed by now it wasn’t fixed before we went home.
I can understand that perhaps the air conditioning unit is more expensive and more complicated to fix but come on Sunny Beauty, how hard is it to fit a new toilet seat and replace a washer in the sink unit? It makes you feel like they have got your money and don’t care. It is because of this attitude I perceived that I didn’t give it 5 stars.
