“complete sh1t hole!”

We have just returned from 1 week at the "5 star" hotel Planeta in sunny beach, Bulgaria. My advice is go at your own risk! We were the only Brits in the whole hotel, in fact we were the only non Bulgarian guests in the hotel. The place was fully booked with 1400 19 year old school leavers and was a complete riot all day and night till gone five in the morning every morning. The whole hotel was given over to thekids to do as they pleased and nothing was done to stop them. On complaint we were told "they are school leavers having a good time" All well and good but not at the cost of our holiday! The food was stone cold and mostly ineadable. The beer was served in 1/3rd pint plastic cups which they only half filled and was watered down. The wine tasted like anti-freeze and all this joy was only available from the pool bar not the two inside bars which you had to pay for. Never stayed in such a place before and hopefully never will again. We booked the hotel under the impression it was a 5 star hotel, I would give it a 2 star max, it was that bad we moved hotels! Very disappointed as we saved a long time for the pefect family holiday which we never got, even the kids couldn't wait to get home!

Room Tip: Bad food, bad location, dont go in may! No way 5*

“Good Hotel, Worst food ever”

Together with my friend we could not eat anything inside the hotel for 3 days. Good for my diet, bad for my vacation mood.

If you don't eat there, then the hotel is really nice. I would say they had the best rooms i've ever stayed at. The entire hotel looks great.

“Oh my god!!!! stay away from this hotel!!!”

How can you start and describe such a nightmare?! this hotel is located between one strip club to another, far away from the good part of the promenade , where the good hotels are located (like Victoria's palace hotel etc).
we came to Bulgaria on our special holiday to relax and enjoy ourselves but insted we wanted to cry! the rooms- even though they were big and had a balcony and a kitchen, they were not nice looking. the floor was naked, and the styling was old and ugly. in the coridor there was no light. i asked the cleaning lady why is that and she replied: Economic! which means that while you guys are paying for this hotel, the managment is trying to save a few labas (which is bulgerian money).. niceain't it?
i had to escort my grandma each day to her room because she was afraid of the dark!
the food: no words to describe!!! the dining room smells awful - like rotten fish!
the food was very oily in order to cover the bad taste. fruits and vegetables were brown and filty. i didn't eat there at all. nothing to eat outside besides burgerking and tourists restaurants... a very small pool. it was a very sad vication and i would never ever go back to this hotel agein!!!!!!!!

“Easy comfort”

Stayed in Sunny beach many times, this is my favourite hotel. Its close to the centre of sunny beach and close to the best part of the beach there. Ideal location for me. Hotel looks impressive, very classy and well designed, that includes lobby, exterior, all the corridors and the rooms. Room was huge, clean, beautifully decorated. Soft carpets, big comfy sofa and decent tele with a good number of english speaking channels. Only negative in the room I had was that the AC was centrally controlled and set at 24 degrees. This is an ok temperature, but a little warm for my personal taste, I would have liked to keep my room at about 20. Wasnt a big deal, but I just dont understand why is wasnt controllable in the room.

Pool area was decent, as was both outdoor and indoor pools. The gym was ok too, ideal for doing a bit of exercise before eating too much food all day. Best thing about pool area was it was lively and busy, but there was never a shortage of loungers. They also had spongy covers to make the loungers more comfortable. (we visited in september, maybe in august hotel would be a lot busier and there would be shortage of loungers and issues getting a spot by the pool. Last year at Chaika, there were fights breaking out over loungers and people moving towels so the ease of availability here was a relief). Animation team worked very hard and had good games for adults and kids. Outside bar served up decent beer and acceptable spirits all day to all inclusive guests, no problems there.

Wont talk about the food much. All inclusive food was available 4 times a day, big selections and of adequate quality. Not everything will be to everyones tastes and some food was bland, i suspect that as guests are predominantly not english, the menu is targeted at the european pallette. I was happy with food, ate every day and never left unsatisfied, but can see how fussy eaters would find reason to grumble.

All inclusive deals are superb for managing costs through your holiday, but i would definately not eat every single meal there all week as food did become samey. To avoid eating at a nearby restaurant and finding yourself paying for the same dull food you could have had for free at Planeta, I recommend Mamacita mexican restaurant. Well tasy food, nothing like the standard bulgarian stuff everywhere else and reasonable too. Had a decent live band playing there while we ate.

Good hotel, will stayn there again!

“DON'T GO”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

Not clean, they don't even clean the lavatories every day and don't change sheets. Food terrible. Vegetables and fruits on the verge of being rotten. Food overcooked and tastes bad (how can you ruin steamed broccoli??). Noise from the street until late at night (karaoki). No internet in rooms or in anywhere except close to reception.
