Wow.
it takes a little while to get there but the minute you take a sip of that first cocktail and dip your toes into the warm Indian Ocean you will realise it was all completely worth it! The pictures will do it a certain amount of justice but being looked after like royalty is difficult to put into words and photographs.
3 course meals served in a different location every day mean you get experience a new view. The food was fantastic - offering to cater for my larger appetite on may an occasion. Considering its location you would imagine a favouring of seafood but you get a lovely variety of other foods and deserts.
Diving is superb - a well equipped dive centre and an enthusiastic instructor and boat team. First two dives were a bit ordinary but the last two I did were great. If you are not a diver, you get given your fins and mask and can snorkel just off the beach. Great things to see - turtle, eels, potato bass even...
rooms - absolutely superb. It helped being upgraded but by all accounts, the other rooms all had other attributes mking them a nice play to stay. We loved the showers and opening the doors to a warm ocean breeze whilst you slept.
The resort is young and you can see from the staff that their training is starting to become second nature which bodes well for the future. I'm sure the guy who turned down our room was hiding behind trees to see when we went off to dinner!!
If there is a negative (which hasn't anything to do with Azura) it is that the flights to Pemba are a bit infrequent. I believe that this will be improving soon which means your access from South Africa or Kenya will be a whole lot easier. Also, for the quality of their resort, the boat probably needs to be upgraded.
But these small things are insignificant when you realise you can have a complete recharge on, literally, your island. Whether you sleep in late or go fo a sunet kayak, you can be assured that when you get back there will be a beer waiting fro you and probably some fanastic 3 course meal due shortly.
As far as Island holidays go, you can do the commerical resort thing or, if you have the budget to spoil yoursel, you can do Azura... Private boutique luxury does come at a cost but the value you get here makes it worth it. I find it highly unlikely you will regret it!
