“Avoid at all costs.”

My wife, two kids and I had hoped for a relaxing weekend getaway and booked a multi room suite at the Canad Inn Grand Forks, but instead we received hassles and 2 nights out of 2 were sleepless due to a very loud fan motor in the bathroom that kept us awake all night.

Maintenance verified the problem at 10pm and tried to ascertain the cause of the intermittent vibration. When it started again an hour later, I called the front desk, only to be told that "it wasn't that loud" and the "maintenance couldn't find the source of the problem". When I pointed out that maintenance had witnessed the problem, the young lady at the front desk named Tiffany said that it was out of her hands and the only one that could assist was the manager and she wouldn't be in until the morning.

The most helpful individual was Sabo, the Security Gaurd that was dispatched to the room after the 4th call at 11pm. He was apologetic and attentive, even sympathetic. Had he been able to rectify the situation, I honestly believe that he would have. Unfortunately, he wasn't the manager or empowered to help us.

Save your money, go somewhere that treats guests with respect and understanding.

“Good but some tiny issues that can get annoying...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Living about 2 hours away from Grand Forks, my wife and have only stayed here twice. Both times we enjoyed how cozy the lobby is and the fact that you don't even need to leave the facilities for accomodations. Check in took a bit of time though... and getting to the room, you'd have to swipe your room card before you can press your floor number.

Dining wise, there's Tavern United, a bistro on the other end, Aaltos, and Garbonzo's Pizza to choose from. There's an arcade and Splasher's waterpark to entertain everyone.

The rooms are clean. TV is ok. Views maybe obscured by the waterpark depending on the floor and side of the building you get (we were on the fifth and all we saw out the window was the waterpark. beds are ok. Pillows are another issue (too soft for me) but there's another one that should be addressed.

My wife is short at about 4'8 and when she went to take a shower, she could not reach the shower head to adjust it. I took a look at it and it was indeed placed waaaayyy too high not only for her but for kids as well, to the point that I had to adjust it for her.

Other than that, hotel is a good stay for Manitobans crossing the border for a shopping trip or for families looking to get away for a day and enjoy the waterpark. Price may be a bit steep so look for specials (we got a Thursday price of $79). We'd definitely stay again for the right price. Also keep in mind this is right beside a football arena, where the UND Bisons play so you may have to deal with crowds and parking issues during game days.

“It's all under one roof, . . . but . . .”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

One barely needs to leave this place for a short or medium trip. The hotel offers a number of restaurants, bars, and other entertainment all under one roof. The rooms are average to nice, the restaurants OK, but then there is the slow, slow, slow check-in process, the insufferably slow and unreliable elevator situation, and the water slide area. The water slide area is very large and inviting, but there is really only one slide for teens and above, a couple of small slides for little kids and the rest is all splashy, lazy river, or pool type activities. Considering the hype, it's kind of disappointing - - - still this is Grand Forks, ND. AND - - there was a fire alarm issue that cleared the whole building and water slide area into the lobby and the front desk didn't deny that this was a recurring issue. Our stay was an OK experience, but probably not worth the price and trouble.

“Comfey Bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

This hotel is made for large and rowdy groups. The elevators have a special card slider were by you may only access the floor your room is on. This is a wonderful ideal as otherwise the hordes of the children staying at this hotel or doing day use of the water park would be running down the hallways.
I asked for a quiet upper floor room and was given a suite, very nice. The suite is also designed and build for rough wear and tear.

The bathroom, while large, had a small wash stand and plastic tub/shower and plastic wood like door.

A large 3 person jacuzzi, looked clean but I did not use.

Nice fireplace with a flickering flame is in a corner, with wide screen TV over the mantel. Fireplace hardly throws any heat out, so can be left on at night.

I keep room heat off, and did not notice the recycling issues previously mentioned by other posters.

A very comfey bed, and room was very clean.

The front desk staff was helpful, if not a bit over worked.

Room Tip: Be sure to get an upper floor in the quiet section, unless you are partying.

“excellent from pricing, accomodations, friendlyness....etc.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

I would say this is two thumbs up for me....way up.

first of, the price is not bad compare to other hotels...if you call the hotel and book it, make it sure to ask for a package deal that includes the waterpark pass. If you dont like the noise from the bar just like other comment from here, DONT GET THE MAIN FLOOR. I was on the 9th floor and I couldnt hear a thing not even a people walking down the hallway except for the heater which is normal. They have pizza that you can order that will only cost you 10.99 for 15" size and I must say a pretty good pizza as well. If you dont like ordering that, you can try the restaurants on the main floor and there is a bar that you can enjoy the evening aswell.

WATERPARKS: This water park is amazing like i mentioned before, better than the other hotels that you can find within the area. it is bigger and better for kids and adult. there are slides for TODDLERS, a slides for KIDS, and also a bigger slides for ADULTS. Plus a 5 feet deep pool that you can enjoy.

STAFF AND ROOM: Staffs are friendly with always a smiles whenever you approach them, our rooms are pretty well clean.

I hope this will help you. I myself definitely will go back to this place again next time i go and stay at GF ND.
