We spent one night in the "Summer Kitchen" which you can get to either by coming through the backyard from the side street, or by coming through the main house, outside, and down a flight of stairs. There was a king sized bed which was surprisingly comfortable. At home we have a Tempurpedic and so I usually don't sleep well on hotel beds. This one was great and I woke up without a backache. The room is quaint and charming with a gas fireplace. The TV is very small but we were only there for one evening.
We were a little worried about the breakfast because we are both gluten-intolerant. We noted this very briefly in our online reservation but didn't really expect any special treatment. To our surprise not only had Lori bought a loaf of gluten-free bread she also made us potato pancakes from scratch using all gluten-free ingredients. I thought this was going above and beyond the call of duty!
The rest of the breakfast was wonderful, too. There was bacon and two kinds of sausage, eggs any way you liked, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, apple crisp, three kinds of sweet breads and several other things besides juice, coffee & tea.
Parking can be difficult in this part of Old Salem but the inn has a parking lot behind the house which you can enter via Church street.
