“Perfect location in WS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here for two nights at the end of December 2011. This hotel is located directly beside the highway, but we did not find there to be any problem with noise (our room faced the highway). It is only about 30 min from the Greensboro International Airport.

Parking:
Parking is in a garage across the street, but there is a covered area to unload your car at the hotel. The walk is very short, and there is an entrance to the hotel beside the garage, but you have to use your key card to enter the door.

Location:
The location of the hotel is perfect as restaurants and attractions are all within easy walking distance. The edge of Old Salem is only about .1 miles from the hotel - this is the closest hotel that is not actually in the Old Salem district. The Old Salem visitor center is only .8 miles (that is about the farthest part of Old Salem).

Rooms:
The room was pretty nice, the carpets could use replacing soon though. Overall it was a standard room for a hotel of this price bracket. Desk, chair, king bed, shower/tub, and coffee maker.

Breakfast:
Nice breakfast with a waffle maker, cold cereal, muffins, juice, coffee, microwaveable jimmy dean sandwiches, etc.

“Perfectly nice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stayed here on business and my company had booked a block of rooms. Perfectly nice and clean, plus a very good breakfast the next morning, and good location. The staff was friendly and pleasant and there was really nothing amiss with the service or quality of the rooms. I would certainly be pleased to stay here again.

“A touch (and more) of class”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

On both ways of a round-trip across North Carolina we stayed in this lovely, newly renovated hotel. It was such a pleasant surprise, I really hate not giving it all 5 stars. (If I could have given it 4 1/2, that would be more accurate.) The ONLY reason I didn't give the max rating was that I thought the handicapped room my friend stayed in wasn't as thoroughly thought out as it could have been. The bathroom was great with sturdy fixtures and rails, but two simple things would make it better: 1) they have no king bed handicapped rooms available, and two doubles in this normal sized room just makes it too crowded for a handicapped person, and 2) immediately upon entering the room there is a narrow pass between the edge of the first bed and the desk chair pushed up to the desk. Not wide enough for my elderly friend in his walker to pass, and definitely not wide enough for a wheelchair. I was there to help, but a handicapped person alone would have had a hard time manhandling the desk chair out of the way.
I chose the king bed non-smoking room and it was comfortable and spacious. I wish my friend could have had that room, but there were no rails in the bathroom. Besides these things, though, this is a great place for the traveller or vacationer. The staff is awesome, truly friendly, the rooms clean, bed sleeps wonderfully, everything has had a recent update (paint, furniture, appliances, clock radio, phones, wall heater/air conditioner, TV---all are new) and everything they chose is quality. Great places to eat are a short walk away, and access by Bus 40 is a breeze. I liked this hotel very much, and if I ever have to stay in Winston-Salem again, I will go out of my way to stay here.

“Not much good about this one”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

My brother, who lives in Winston-Salem recommended this place because it looks nice from the outside and it was in a great location. We received a great price of $59/night for a King through Trip Advisor and Expedia. We were very tired when we checked in and I didn't have the paperwork handy to look at. The price was listed at $69 on what the desk clerk gave me to initial and I accepted it. We also were placed in a room with 2 double beds, but didn't think about that until we'd pretty much settled in and I didn't want to have to move rooms.

The room and hallways were pretty dingy. The carpet was nasty and there was a stain on one of the beds. My wife wouldn't even consider taking her socks off. The next morning, I discovered that the shower didn't even have a curtain.

When we checked out, I showed the clerk that I had a confirmation for a King for $59. He looked at the computer for a few minutes and then told me there was nothing he could do. The manager was on vacation and he couldn't make this sort of change.

Although there is parking, it is not connected to the hotel and it is a block away. This causes a bit of a pain in a fairly cramped loading and unloading area.

I have a strong feeling that there are much better hotels around in the Winston-Salem area.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past few years. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the location is great. The hotel has its own parking deck across the street and is well lit with plenty of spaces. The hotel has breakfast every morning and it is always delicious and well stocked even towards the end of the breakfast times. The staff is so accommodating; if you need anything you will have it within minutes! I really enjoy my stay every time I am here.
