Let me get the good parts out first. The front desk clerk was very friendly. Housekeeping had done what they could (for the most part) to clean the room as best they could with what they had. And it did have free wi-fi. Beyond that I can't say too much good.
The entire hotel smelled like stale smoke. We were in a non-smoking room, and it didn't smell like recent stale smoke, but like years of built up stale smoke wafting around the hotel. The rooms are very old and in immense need of refurbishing. The beds are as hard as a rock (which I actually prefer, but my wife and kids hated). The toilet and bathtub are in their own room which is tiny and the sink is in the passage between the front door and the rest of the room. I know that's not an abnormal configuration for lower priced hotels, but the room was so small to begin with it really made it seem even smaller. The TV had a Showtime schedule sitting on top of it, but best I could tell didn't actually get Showtime. It got about 7 channels and had no remote control.
The room was mostly clean (other than one unidentifiable item on the floor which I will choose to believe was a chocolate covered raisin or peanut). The wallpaper was held on in places with thumbtacks. The AC worked, but all of the buttons were missing, so if you wanted to change the setting you had to push down on the little metal spikes that once held the buttons.
The elevators worked, but in their own special way. Each time you pressed a button an elevator would come to your floor, but often it didn't match the direction of the button you had pushed, so you often had to wait for 3 or 4 elevators before you found one you could use. And if you were on the elevator going down it would invariably stop on most of the floors for people who had pushed the up button, so none of them actually got on. In the end we used the stairs mostly despite the fact we were on the 4th floor.
I didn't go out to the pool, buy my wife took the kids. They report that it was unheated and very cold. My daughter got out relatively quickly reporting that there was a lot of hair floating around in it. My son thinks it was just needles from a nearby pine tree. Either way there was a fair amount of debris in the pool (which was tiny).
We actually stayed in the hotel for free because my wife had some Wyndham points and we booked it as a stopover on a long car trip. Despite that I can't really say that I feel like we got a good deal for the money.
Other people have said if you were visiting the hospital it would be OK to stay there, personally I saw other hotels within half a mile, I'd go elsewhere.
