We always stay at the Marriott in downtown Winston-Salem when we are visiting. We have made multiple trips, at various times of year because we have an undergrad student at Wake Forest University. The hotel is in the downtown area, an easy drive to and from campus. I really appreciate the valet parking, especially if I am traveling alone; there is a parking fee for this, but there is also a parking garage across the street to park yourself for less. The staff is always friendly and courteous, and they have gone above and beyond for me on several occasions. We once left an i-pod in the room, and did not realize until we were back in Massachusetts. The housekeeping staff had found the ipod, (and a small radio), turned it in, and it was shipped back to us promptly after we called looking for it.
The hotel itself is clean and well maintained. The rooms are on larger side, and the beds are very comfy. The food in the dining room is only fair at breakfast, not worth the expense. We have eaten dinner there, and it was wonderful. The bar is outside the dining room, with tables, so we order from the restaurant menu, and eat out there. It is a very warm and welcoming area around the bar, and we enjoy spending time there. The area is quite large, and open, with couches as well as the tables.
The hotel has been fairly busy every time we have been there, so there are lots of people coming and going but the hotel is large, and the guest floors are quiet. We really love it, and would never stay anywhere else in Winston-Salem. I really appreciate polite and friendly people, and every person I have met there, on every trip, has been just as nice as can be. A nice hotel, friendly people, perfect location.
