“a shame that this property was rated very well in the 80s and 90s”

it was a holiday inn back in the day and was always accomadating by the staff .. it is a shame to experience such ineptness that surely has crushed my admiration of past stays

maybe the owners need to realize that to keep a loyal clientel . they need to spend some to make some.. not just money but time training the staff the way it should be .. the pilar of southern hospitality . . like it once was

“OMG! This place should be condemned.”

I was in Wilmington with my niece moving my daughter into her dorm at UNCW. My husband waited too long to make a reservation not knowing how full the hotels would be due to move-in. It was the only hotel left near campus. The hotel clerk was complaining VERY loudly about being ready to leave. There was a line out the door when we got there of people checking in. She left the poor slow overwhelmed other clerk to deal with everyone. After a long wait we were finally told where our room was. As we walked towards the room a huge party was going on at the pool, there were people walking around with large beers in brown bags, swearing and yelling. As uncomfortable as we were we continued on to our room. Yikes, the door was rusted, there was a malodorous smell of urine, alcohol, and cigarettes. The bathroom hot water faucet just spun around, no hot water. There were pubic hair all over the toilet. There were 2 hand towels that were supposed to be bath towels. We were exhausted from the move in and we pulled down the covers of the bed to discover that the sheet did not fit. A gross yellow stained mattress was where our heads would be. My niece went to the clerk and asked for more towels and a sheet that would fit our bed. They gave her two more tiny towels and a flat sheet that also didn't fit. I had a migraine headache and could not drive at this point. We had a choice of putting the second sheet where our heads would be or sleeping in our car. We were terrified of the goings on outside the room and opted to sleep in our clothes including socks. I have never been so disgusted with a hotel room in my life. If there was a negative rating this hotel would get it. No one should sleep under these conditions. This hotel should be condemned! Prisoners have better accommodation.

“america's best value-HARDLY!”

My husband and I went to Wilmington on a Sat. to shop and stay over night. My husband found this hotel thru Hotel.com and booked our room. We shoped ,ate and arrived to check in at 11:00pm. A very loud party was being held in the room next to the lobby. We were told that our room would be in another building. As we parked our car, we saw a young man come out of his room with his pants around his ankles and go to another room. I didn't want to get out of the car! My husband said our room would be located around the corner. We carried all our belongings and as we turned the corner saw police, broken glass and crime tape. As we walked around the mess the policeman said that a drunk had run their into the building and that they were waithing for the fire dept. As we found our room (next door to the crashed room) We opened the door to find a room that was so trashed- I won't go there. We shut the door and went back to the office to ask for a refund. The manager wanted us to take another room off the lobby (party still in full swing) WeI declined! He said"Where you gonna stay?" I said"Not here!" I know the accident was not the hotels fault but a good security guard and a housekeeping staff is needed here. All I can say about this hotel is DON'T DO IT!

“Never Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

The front desk clerk was talking on the phone and barely acknowledged my husband and me when we walked in. When she did hang up, she complained about the caller to me. She also complained about all the people checking in at the same time, as well as how cold it was in the lobby. All this complaining made me very uncomfortable as I did not know how to respond. Finally, we got our keys.

We walked into our room, disgusted to find the following problems: rust damage on the wall behind the door hinge, water damage on the ceiling, a piece of carpet cut out and replaced with a contrasting piece, wallpaper peeling off the wall, and the showerhead disconnecting from the wall. My husband went to the manager to ask that we be moved to a more suitable room and we were moved. It was an improvement, but still not worth the money- the drain stopper did not work, one electrical outlet did not function, the TV menu was stuck on Spanish (no matter what we did with the remote), there were no TV channel guides, and no paper and pen (which I would expect to find in even a 1-star hotel).

The cleaning crew did a very nice job keeping our room clean. They made our beds, gave us new towels and wash cloths, and vacuumed the sand out of the floor.

The continental breakfast was fine. Not a high quantity of food, but the variety within what was offered was satisfying. My husband and I are pretty easy to please when it come to breakfast, so we left satisfied with the breakfast.

To be honest, the only reason we stayed out our reservation was that, after 4-1/2 hours of driving, we no longer had the energy to shop around for another hotel. We were also afraid of our ability to afford one on such short notice. We will more than likely be returning to Wilmington on vacation in the future, but we will not be returning to this hotel. First impressions are important, and this hotel did not leave us with a very good one.

“Dirty dirty dirty! Cockroaches & Scabies!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

The location was close to a supermarket & restaurants but you definately need a car. We could get to either beach, the highway or the University, but nothing was within walking distance.
Although we thought we were getting a good deal with the price of the hotel and the condition of the room at first, after the second night we looked more closely and could see cockroaches scatter every time we turned on the lights! They offered us another room on the first floor but it was a few rooms away. We were sure all of them had the same bugs. After arriving home I couldn't quit itching for days & finally saw a doctor who asked if I recently stayed in a hotel. He said I had SCABIES which are mites often spread through hotel bedding! EW!!! I was put on meds to get rid of them & I called the hotel and complained and tried to at least get one night refunded or anything but they didn't care. They didn't do anything for me. Good luck if you stay here! Yuck.
