We decided to take a family beach trip for the 4th of July at the last minute. Since most hotels were understandably booked, we decided to try America's Best Value as we did not plan on spending much time in the room. When we checked in, we were a little disturbed to find a number of roaches in the room, but we still toughed it out since we had no place else to stay. When we returned to the hotel the next evening after spending the day at the beach, we were shocked to find that we had been locked out of our room. When we inquired at the front desk about it, we were told that we had been locked out due to non-payment. We thought that was odd since the room had been pre-paid via one of the internet travel sites. The desk clerk said he could do nothing about it and that he would have to call the hotel owner. After waiting 20 minutes for the owner to arrive, we showed him our paid confirmation/receipt from the travel site and he then let us back in our room, without an explanation of how the error was made or offering any special consideration for the inconvenience and embarrassment. When we finally got back into our room (at around 11:00 pm), we looked closer at the bedding and discovered bed bugs! That was obviously the last straw. We went back to the front desk and told the clerk what we had found. He could not find us another hotel to stay in, so he offered us a room in another part of the building where their "higher class of customers" generally stay. Since we had no choice, we agreed to change rooms. Unfortunately, they only had a room with a king bed in that section of the hotel, which was a great joy as my wife and I, along with our 2 children had to "shoe horn" into the one bed. Also, when we reached the room, we found that the smoke detector batteries had worn down and was emitting a beeping noise every 10 seconds. Also, there were no towels in the room. We went back to the front desk, picked up batteries for the smoke detector and some towels. We then spent an uncomfortable night in the one bed and left early the next morning. Needless to say, we will not return. We are now fumigating the clothes we had brought with us to ensure that we do not introduce bed bugs or roaches into our home.
