Upon arrival, the Mainstay appeared to be clean and nice. After we checked in we found many things we didn't particularly like. First of all, the elevator is old and feels unsafe. Smoking rooms are close to nonsmoking rooms and our nonsmoking room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Smoking was allowed in the elevator, and halls.
The bathroom had mold on the ceiling and in the tub.
The air condition unit was located in the bedroom in a closet and was very loud.
The complementary breakfast was very limited. Thank goodness for McDonalds.

Stayed here a couple of months ago and it was OK. This time the kitchen floor had footprints from heavy duty boots, torn upholstery on the couch, a broken down recliner AND ROACHES.

Checked out early and the girl tried hard to be surprised. She told me they don't offer the 100% SATISFACTION guarantee anymore as they have replaced it with a new plan of making sure everything is done right the first time. HA HA HA HA.

CHOICE HOTELS has gone downhill. Enuf for me.

I stayed at Mainstay Inn in Wilmington in July. Although I was assured of a no smoking room, I was placed in a smoking room on a smoking floor. I was told it was non-smoking. I am very allergic to smoke and became very ill. I continued to complain and asked to be moved. I then found other accomodations and asked that the policy of "Satisfaction Guaranteed or your money back for one night was honered." I was told that I agreed to stay in a smoking room and if I was that unhappy I would have moved sooner. Asked to speak to manager and was told,"I know my manager and she won't do anything." Complained at corporate office and was asked why I did not read smoking and nonsmoking signs above rooms. There were non. Uncaring staff.

My husband and I stayed here while attending the Azalea Festival and it was a post-anniversary celebration for us as well. First the location is PERFECT! There are all kinds of restaurants in walking distance, Olive Garden, Carrabbas Italian, IHOP, Waffle House, shopping, Marshalls, Target, and just one street over, all different major shopping stores and restaurants, Applebee's and more. Downtown Wilmington, is 7 mins. away, Wrightsville Beach is 10 mins. away. ROOM- very spacious. We had a King and there was a full size Fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffee pot, internet, desk area, sleeper sofa, ironing board, some rooms have recliners. It was very spacious, like a studio apartment. The room was very clean, the bed was a little sunk in the middle, but it was unbearable. The pillows were comfy. We had a view of the courtyard. The breakfast was pretty basic, make your own waffles were nice, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, juices, instant oatmeal/grits, french toast. No meat if you want that. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The check-in area is a little awkward, no front desk type, just an office desk, with computer and person to help you. The walls are VERY THIN and you can hear very well what's going on in the hallways. Unfortunately, we had are area where there were teens, laughing and being a little noisy. They had a very nice weight and exercise room, treadmills, bikes, etc., small office room with two computers. I think the pool is shared with the hotel next door. We enjoyed and will definitely stay again.
