My husband and I just got back from a weekend stay at Brookside Mountain Mist. We were in the Hickory Hills room, which was incredibly spacious. The bed was huge and comfy, and the room had a gas fireplace which we took advantage of quite a bit. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and I worked with Carolyn to add some special treats to our room every day; she was happy to honor all of my requests. We also took advantage of breakfast in our room one morning; that was definitely a plus. The food was yummy and plentiful. I especially enjoyed Dina’s baked goods. (If I had regular access to them I’m sure my skinny jeans would never fit again.) The living room area also had a gas fireplace and comfy couch, and offered lovely mountain views. The landscaping was beautiful; it’s obvious they’ve taken great care with it. We were hoping to be able to take advantage of the fireplace deck one night, but the weather wasn’t very cooperative – we picked a rainy weekend.
The location is convenient to downtown Waynesville. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, and more a short drive away. Unfortunately some of them were closed since it’s the slow season. But that just gives us an excuse to come back later and explore some more. We spent a good deal of our time in Asheville, which was an easy 30 minute drive away.
Overall we had a pleasant stay. We felt comfortable and at home at Brookside. Carolyn and Dina are friendly down-to-earth hosts, and I hope we get to see them again soon!
