“Well-run Campground on the OBX of North Carolina”

Rodanthe on the Outer Banks is about as far to sea as you can get and still be on dry land. During hurricanes there might not be any dry land as the thin strip of this barrier reef is so low that the ocean call rolll right over it during a storm.
Camp Hatteras is large and extends from ocean to sound and is big-rig friendly with dependable 50-amp power and good TV signal over a stable coax connection. Water pressure was excellent. Our site was on the ocean side with quick access to the beach.
The swimming pool, laundry and the grounds are clean and well maintained and the friendly ladies at the front desk made check-in a breeze.
For flavor, rent the movie "Nights at Rodanthe." The house is still there, but has been relocated and is now a B&B.
We will be back..

Room Tip: The front desk personnel are very good about describing sites that will fit your rig. We were there...

“Nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We stayed after hurricane Irene came thru.

All things considered it looks pretty good. Most of the park is closed but it looks useable. Some sights looked like they still needed some repairs to the utilities but the grass was green and the streets open.

We didn't look around the club house but it appeared to be getting reapired.

Bathrooms were really clean.

Beach access is close and easy.

We felt real safe.

Quiet.

This is where I'll be camping next time I'm in the OBX.

“Perfect in every way!”

I have to say that my family had a wonderful time. The service was "World Class" as it states in advertising. From the time we arrived until the time we left, the hospitality was amazing. Everyone who worked there was extreamlly helpful and had a terrific knowlodge of the area and things to suggest for the whole famiily. My very skeptible husband who is not a fan of the "beach", asked if we would like to come back next year! LOL! Now if he wants to come back, that means they were doing something right! This campground has everything you could imagine! Tennis, basketball courts, 3 swimming pools and so on! Sound accsess and beach accsess all for free! No need to pay and you can walk there at night as well. No one there to tell you that you arent allowed, which is my husband's favorite part! The only problems we ran into were the flies and mosquitoes. They were terrible! I understand that someone was spraying them every night, but my goodness! We had to eat inside as opposed to outdide in the freash air. But I must say this, we will definately be back this up and coming year! See you soon! Tina K. from PA

“Deluxe Beach Camping Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

My husband and I stayed at Camp Hatteras RV resort for eight nights ( June 10-18 2011) We reserved a beach front site and it was ready and waiting for us when we dragged in after a long drive from western New York. The price of the ocean front site was higher but well worth it for being close to beach, ( better to run back for ice, bathroom breaks etc)
The resort in located in a quieter part of the outer banks away from the kill devil frenzy, but yet all the comforts are close by. As we went in early June, we avoided the crowds of the high summer season, each day we noticed more folks checking in.
The staff was more then helpful, and were a perfect example of southern hospitality. We had some problems along the way ( ac broke and leaked water in RV and I locked us out with keys and cell phones inside) and with each catastrophe, they knew who to call, and offered us help and support along the way. ( we are sort of new to camping.....note to self, bring extra keys locksmiths can be pricey)
Despite us being novices, the resort was clean, quiet and family oriented. Our site was only a sand dune away from ocean and at night could hear the sound of waves as we drifted off to sleep. Loved the beach, bring an umbrella with tie downs or sand anchor as it is very windy and we did not use our awning for this reason. The wind is welcome as the temp.'s were 90's each day. A beach cart is also a handy item to carry chairs and cooler. As other's have mentioned bring your own drinking water.
Cable TV picture was great, and yes they do charge extra for this. Hey paradise ain't cheap, right? Restrooms very clean and maintained, pools were clean and refreshing. Our site came with a cement pad which cut down on the sand tracked in the RV. They sprayed each night for bugs, You can not have campfires here at your site, but folks had them on the beach nightly.
There are places near by to eat a casual meal out and DQ ( Dairy Queen) is a stone throw away if you want a treat. We shopped at Food Lion ( about 15 minutes away ) and we bought ice at the fishing store next door)
It is a long drive for us but we enjoyed this resort, the beautiful beach and the management aims to please. We will be returning next June.

Room Tip: upgrade to the ocean front sites
