“First and Second Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We first stayed at Mountain Brook in October 1986 for our honeymoon. We returned in October 2011 to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We stayed in Cabin #5 both times. This is a cozy, one bedroom unit with a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a front porch with swing. The McMahons do a great job running the place. Mountain Brook is fairly secluded, located about 10 miles from either Franklin or Dillsboro/Sylva. We usually shop in Franklin for groceries, and work in some bowling or mini golf. Mill Creek Country Club is a nice golf course in Franklin with reasonable rates, but there are also other top notch courses in the area. Each town has nice restaurants, while Franklin also tends to have more of the national food chains.

Mountain Brook can be enjoyed all by itself as a peaceful getaway, or it can be used as a home base to sightsee the Great Smoky Mountains. To the north, it is a fairly short drive to Cherokee, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Clingman's Dome. A little farther drive brings in Gatlinburg, Cades Cove, or Asheville. To the south is Highlands, Cashiers, and the Land of the Waterfalls. We typically do a lot of hiking, and it is nice to return to the cabin for a fire with wood stocked daily by Gus. There are no televisions or telephones, so it is a nice restful, change of pace. We will certainly return for our 50th anniversary, but plan to also make a few intermediate trips as well.

Room Tip: We have only stayed in Cabin #5 which is a single bedroom and bath. There is a cabin across the path...

We loved seeing you all again, even if it has been 25 years. It was fun looking through the photos of you "youngsters" on your honeymoon. Glad you could reminisce in your little cottage . We're happy that at Mountain Brook, the past has never become the past! How cute to bring "bear" with you to share the trip. We DO hope to see you before your 50th! Michele

“Great Choice for WCU Parents”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Our family of four stayed in one of the Mountain Brook cabins this past weekend and had a great time. We were in the area for Family Weekend at WCU where our daughter is a student. We enjoyed the time away from TV, phones, and the internet--we built a fire, played board games and spent some quality family time with our WCU student and her younger sister. The owner was very helpful in pointing out local restaurants and directions. It was also really nice to have a kitchen for the weekend, rather than just a hotel room. We highly recommend this beautiful quiet spot in western Carolina!

“HEAVEN”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I needed a getaway as my daughter ,her husband and their 3 year old and 2month old moved in with us in July. I worked ALOT of hours 12 hour rotating swing shifts and needed relazation and quiet and the hotels listed just didnt strike me at ALL. I wanted a cabin of sorts with the extras and privacy and this was the ticket. I rented the "ROMANCER" it is away from the city, your own fireplace, jacuzzi, sauna ~~cottage fully equipped. My regrets are that I never found it sooner. They are auctioning it off for sale in Oct. as they want to retire. I PRAY that whomever makes this purchase keeps it with the integrity these fine people have instilled in it. I would love to return 4-6 times a year its the GREATEST, If I could work there and help run it I would have the perfect job Carol Trotter of Pickens S.C.

Room Tip: rooms were spacious, clean and open. VERY cozy

Good news for you! We were unsuccessful in our auction efforts, so we will still be here to greet you! We are taking a few months off, though, to regroup and recoop so plan to visit us in the spring. We'll reopen April 13, and springtime in the Smokies is not to be missed! Come see us again and take a break from your own busy life! Michele

“Warm and Cozy Cabins and Friends That Welcome You To Their Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

We have stayed at this lovely hideaway for almost 15 times and we still cannot get enough of the warmness of the cozy fireplaces and the friends that welcome you back.

These cute little cabins were built before there were busy schedules, "dancing with the stars" and highly priced hotels that look like one another. Your first step into these cabins will be a shock. No TV. No Phones but if you wanted that, you could just stay home. This is a place to just be. Just relax.

The cabins are stocked with fire wood for the cold nights or just rely on the electric heat.
The office is filled with brochures and recommendations by the friendly staff. You can base your day trips from this ideal location. Visit Ashville in 45 minutes or take in the casino at Cherokee. Visit the cute little towns of Franklin and Dillsboro for your night out or groceries.

Relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air on your own front porch or fish in their private pond and use their recipe to make dinner that night. They have a rec room that has a TV and movie player for the kids.

This is the place to just breathe and live each minute to its fullest. You will leave on your last day and wonder how the world just got so crazy.
