“They need to pull it together!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2010

My wife and I stayed at this out-of-the-way bed and breakfast back in 2007. We always compare other stays at other places to this experience. We've been lucky so far in our transition into the B & B culture, but not so much with this one. It was nice enough and has the potential to be perfectly quaint and enjoyable. Unfortunately, we still remember what we don't like about it. Most of our criticism centers around the effort put out by the innkeepers or whomever it was that was taking care of the place for them. There wasn't much effort at all. We dealt mostly with a pleasant enough but preoccupied staff gal (not preoccupied by guest needs) and experienced a couple of pretty lame attempts at breakfast. I want to say they had heated up frozen french toast sticks for breakfast. No, I'm sure of it. The staff gal made sure to reinforce the feeling of high-living by bringing out the food in her big, fuzzy bedroom slippers. This place could do really well if they just put a little more effort into making guests feel special--the hallmark of any great bed and breakfast! It has been a while so perhaps things have improved. Staff changes can make a world of difference.

“Really enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2009

My wife and I stayed at the inn during Valentine's weekend. The inn was offering a good deal for two nights that included Biltmore tickets, and it was not much more than staying in a "regular hotel." Our room was very nice....comfortable bed, well-decorated. The room had a small balcony, but we didn't use it because of the colder weather. The breakfast in the morning was good. Our only complaints were the plumbing on the 2nd floor was a little weak and our room was pretty cold at night. Bringing a space heater might not be a bad idea for winter months.

  • Liked — Decorated room, breakfast, reasonable price
  • Disliked — Room was cold

“We had our wedding here, and it was a great experience!”

I love tripadvisor & stumbled on these negative reviews of Sleepyhollow. I wanted to add ours for some more positive feedback! We stayed at Sleepyhollow on two occasions prior to our wedding last July. We live about 4 hours away, but fell in love with the Inn from their website. We priced weddings in several different cities, including our own, and could not beat the value for the price at Sleepyhollow. To make sure it was a legitimate place, we went for a visit prior to booking our wedding in August 06. Had a nice stay; pleased with the grounds although surprised at how small. I guess it appeared larger to us on the website? Anyway, our stay was very nice, quiet, and the grounds are just beautiful. The people are friendly but not overbearing. We returned again in Jan 08 while in town to work out other wedding related details. Again, a nice experience. Our room was clean and well decorated. We returned for our wedding in July 08. With the wedding package we selected, our families all stayed at the Inn for the entire weekend (we had use of the entire Inn & all of the rooms + carriage house). EVERYONE raved at what a nice place it was, and how much they enjoyed it. The rooms were great, the Innkeepers accomodating. Regarding the rehearsal dinner & wedding, if there were any problems, I never knew about them. Danrae worked out all the details with the caterers, DJ's, and the like, and the coordination was seamless. My new husband & I extended our stay a couple of days after the wedding in the carriage house, and again, it was fantastic. I suppose there are a few quirks to a privately owned facility, but people run these types of places, not corporations, so some allowance has to be made for the human factor. Isn't that part of what makes a unique experience, versus a cookie cutter Hampton Inn stay that is the same everywhere? We loved it, had a great experience, appreciated all the effort & beautiful wedding pictures.

“Beautiful and Welcoming”

I visited Sleepy Hollow as a bridesmaid in a wedding. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. There are only a few people working there which made me really suprised that they were able to keep up with all of us and our confusion on my best friend's wedding day! The grounds are gorgeous and although they have remodeled the home from its original form, they were able to keep much of its history- (And will even show you their beofre & after pictures if you care to see) With all hardwood floors, a parlor, and comfy sitting area, I will definetly be re-visiting the Inn on my own!

“Not the warmest welcome, but pleasant”

I had been in contact with the innkeeper numerous times via email to make the reservation for the weekend. We arrived within the checkin period and nobody was at the B&B, not even any guests. The odd thing was it was all lit up and wide open, as we walked in and walked all around. Creepy music was playing through speakers from a movie or something which added to the creepy feeling. Plus, while it was very lovely decorated for Christmas, there were large dolls that added to the scary factor. Also, a dog was on the property and being kept in a room with a chair propped up against the doors to keep him in and he was barking like crazy and sounded like he was going to break through the doors. All and all, we were very tempted to just stay somewhere else! After about a 45 min wait and walking around the property, we decided to leave and leave a note for someone to call us. We were at dinner a few hours later and someone finally called. Apparently, the innkeeper was out of town and the son was responsible for checking us in and he didn't know when we were coming and didn't wait around. So we went back and moved into our room and then interacted with the innkeeper the next morning at breakfast. I would agree the owners are disorganized as she didn't have our reservation in the system, but was very nice about it and was fine with us staying. She made breakfast and all.

Our room was very comfortable. Breakfast was nice and homecooked on the spot. Others at breakfast were very friendly and welcoming and mentioned a similar experience when they checked in. The grounds and size of the place is great. Also, great location with very easy access to the Biltmore and downtown Asheville. Quiet location as well. The bathroom for our room had a few issues, the toilet was broke, so we had to walk down the hall to use another one, but the shower and everything was fine. It was no big deal, we just used the robes provided. While there, the kitchen was being renovated to the innkeeper was nice enough to give us cash for breakfast in town the next day since she couldn't do it herself. I thought that was a nice touch. She also apologized in a written thank you note for the toilet and check in mishap. Overall, it was a nice place to stay, just be weary of the disorganization and maybe too laid back approach to running the place. For the money, I'd probably choose to stay somewhere else.
