“Clean and Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2009

We stayed here Mother's Day Weekend. Mom and Dad had a camper on the RV side and my husband and I and 2 kids aged 10 and 12 - and two small dogs had an awesome tent site at the end of the small lake. A small campground, very quiet. Great fishing. pool and playground. The bathrooms were very clean. Now, THAT makes me happy - LOL. We had a great time. Friendly staff.

“Recommend the grounds--Kottage needs vigilance for $$”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2008

We were willing to shell out some bigger bucks than we paid at hotels to "rough it" a bit on a Carolina trip. 4 adults stayed in Deluxe Kottage. We've camped before, so we know a cottage is not the Ritz, but for $120 a night, we propose a few upgrades.

Overall cleanliness of cottage was fine and front porch a pleasant place to relax. Basically, the kitchen was stocked with food prep hardware; however, it should be inspected after each tenant for the advertised "fully equipped." Our Kottage was lacking a decent can opener (the 2 in drawer were dull & circa 1950) and we could have used some starter paper towels and dish soap. If we were camping 'normal' style, we would have brought this stuff...but at rates we paid, some amenities ought to be thrown in.

Worst part was the beds. THINNEST mattresses ever! Additionally, we are tall folk, and my 6 ft.+ son slept in folded style on short bed. Again, we tent camp and have been to Scout/band facilities, so if WE are complaining...it's bad.
KOA needs to put real mattresses on the beds, not foam pads. Our kids gladly spent the second night in a relative's plush beach house, so my husband and I returned to our Kottage, stacked both mattresses on one bed, and slept comfortably.

We did not use the facilities of the campground as we visited Holden Beach. When we were on site, however, it was clean, secure, and quiet (mid-week). My kids said the pool and shower/bathroom facilities were sparkling. Nearby tent campers seemed to enjoy their stays.

“very well maintained”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

It is quite a large campground just minutes from public access to the beach. The pool, laundry room, and restrooms were kept very clean. It was very nearly full when we were there for the weekend, but several left during the week. Even with all those campers, it was kept quiet. It has all pull thru sites for campers- very easy set up. There are just enough trees to keep you from over heating, but mostly sunshine. We noticed every day someone was mowing.

As for the beach- it is only a few miles, less than 5 away and very easy to find. There are 3 gas stations, a mcdonalds, a great grocery store, a planetarium, and a few shops all within the quick drive to the ocean. you will have to cross a rickety, little bridge, but it is in the process of being replaced by a bigger one. The beach access is well maintained; not dirty or rocky. Not many shells, though. There is limited parking for free, other spaces are $5 a day.

The only complaint I would have about this campground is, they charge $5 a person for visitors-- and Boy Howdy! are they ever persistant on this! It was embarrassing how difficult it was for the grandkids to come see us. Even when they were simply stopping to pick us up, they would have to sign in and pay up.

Also, I would not reccommend staying in their cabins. They are those kit cabins that are very small and cute, but they just sat them along the entrance road any old where. Some are facing each other, and none have any privacy.

This was a very clean and pleasant campground. We got in late and the instructions for check-in were rather clear. The restroom and laundry facilities are kept very clean and friendly. The staff was wonderful and you felt very secure and at home at this campground. Very family oriented. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we will go back very soon!! I would recommend this campground to any and everyone!!! We camped here for 2 nights in a tent. It was clean, in a good location, and quiet.
