“Nice only motel in town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Not a lot of choice in Fitzroy Crossing. Motel rooms are $200 per night and are quite rustic in decor and furnishings. Pool facing rooms can be noisey and lack privacy. The a/c doesn't go below 24 degrees so it is necessary to have the ceiling fan going as well.

There is a service charge for everything, room service, using a credit card. I guess you get that when there is not a lot of choice.

There was a note from management saying water was not safe to drink.

Room service dinner was surf and turf, which was tasty. Dessert was sticky date, which was also lovely. Breakfast was a buffet style but bit disappointed that bacon was not replaced when it ran out.

“Adequate but uninspiring - but hey it's clean”

We booked a motel room at very short notice and were pleased to get in. In remote Australia you don't expect a lot, and this place was slightly better than expected. The room was pretty much standard Australian motelsville - a double bed and a single (both comfortable and clean), aircon, shampoo etc in the bathroom (good shower), a kitchen area with bar fridge, kettle, basic crockery and the usual el cheapo tea and instant coffee supplies. On the plus side the aircon worked and it was relatively spacious and clean, and from our window quite a nice view of a lovely river gum and oh yes the current bridgeworks (due to continue till December 2011). The motel units are on stilts with parking underneath - a bit of an awkward squeeze to manoeuvre the 4wd into the allotted space, but the shade is very welcome in 40 degree heat. There is a pool (which we didn't get a chance to try) and the hotel restaurant and bar staff are quite pleasant and all seems to function well. They were good about letting us set up a working space in there while we were waiting for the room to be cleaned. The bar food was OK, pretty much what you'd expect (we had a toasted sandwich and a pie of some description). The front desk staff were polite but not exactly friendly and when requested to give us tax invoices for fuel we later found they'd just given us a printout for the pump price minus the credit card surcharge of 2.5% or so. The full amount of course appeared on the corporate card statement, so more paperwork for us, boo! Worth noting that the fuel is cheaper here than at the roadhouse on the other side of the bridge.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the river side and away from the pool

“Stand Out Camp Ground”

Having just spent 9 days on the Gibb River Road this camp ground was like an oasis in the desert. V well maintained grounds. Spotlessly clean shower and toilet block, excellent laundry and clothes line. Also special undercover areas for group tours. bar and restaurant nice also. The Geikie Gorge cruise is worth doing and there are some local aboriginal paintings available for sale at the Crossing Hotel.

“Great setting”

Stayed here with a group for 1 night as part of a Kimberly tour. Room was very spacious and clean. I loved the setting of the Lodge, it was almost like a tree house. Buffet dinner was excellent with a variety of dishes to choose from. Staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was a bit confusing with the food/beverages set out in different rooms and having to go searching but apart from that is was great.

“Nice hotel, but unfriendly receptioner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We stayed here just last week; But our welcome was everything but warm. If we didn't book it in advance and paid it...we certainly would have left immidiatly!!
Rooms are nice and clean, that's the positive about the hotel. But housekeeping started cleaning their rooms at 7.30 and being realy loud!! Also the beds are real small, we wouldnt call it queensize at all.
No, for us a hotel never to visit again.
Their restaurant serves great food, for a good price!!

Room Tip: we had room number 6, that was looked nice, clean. Poolview.
