We booked a motel room at very short notice and were pleased to get in. In remote Australia you don't expect a lot, and this place was slightly better than expected. The room was pretty much standard Australian motelsville - a double bed and a single (both comfortable and clean), aircon, shampoo etc in the bathroom (good shower), a kitchen area with bar fridge, kettle, basic crockery and the usual el cheapo tea and instant coffee supplies. On the plus side the aircon worked and it was relatively spacious and clean, and from our window quite a nice view of a lovely river gum and oh yes the current bridgeworks (due to continue till December 2011). The motel units are on stilts with parking underneath - a bit of an awkward squeeze to manoeuvre the 4wd into the allotted space, but the shade is very welcome in 40 degree heat. There is a pool (which we didn't get a chance to try) and the hotel restaurant and bar staff are quite pleasant and all seems to function well. They were good about letting us set up a working space in there while we were waiting for the room to be cleaned. The bar food was OK, pretty much what you'd expect (we had a toasted sandwich and a pie of some description). The front desk staff were polite but not exactly friendly and when requested to give us tax invoices for fuel we later found they'd just given us a printout for the pump price minus the credit card surcharge of 2.5% or so. The full amount of course appeared on the corporate card statement, so more paperwork for us, boo! Worth noting that the fuel is cheaper here than at the roadhouse on the other side of the bridge.
Room Tip: ask for a room on the river side and away from the pool
