“Better than expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2011

The room and bathroom were clean, plenty of fresh towels. Room smelt a little damp (due to the extreme wet weather they had been having) until the air conditioning was put on but it worked really well. Better room than some I'd experienced in London, UK and Melbourne, Australia.

Derby is not a luxury resort and considering the climate and area this hotel provides for your needs adequately and the staff were helpful. I may have been lucky as my room was a decent size, had one single and a double and was well decorated.

Pool area looked good and although I didn't get the chance to eat in the hotel, other guests said the food was good.

“This hotel is need of a desperate renevoation”

We were staying in this hotel for approximately 4 weeks , what a tired run down place this is . I would not pay $50 a night for this place but our company was paying over $180 per night as accommodation is very limited in Derby.

The rooms are old and out dated , The prices for a can of bourban are $11 and for a schooner are $6.60 or a stubby of beer $7. The menu for food is also expensive and average . I found the Boab Hotel which is down the road approximately 500 metres is a much better venue for food as well as social life. The sheets at the king sound do not get changed unlles you put a note on your door. Our phone did not work , nor did our video chanel on the tv. The tv is also very old and was hazzey reception. They do not have a toaster in the room , only a kettle for tea and coffee, as they want everyone to eat at their bistro.

The pool was the only thing good about the king sound , when you think how busy they are , it would not hurt them to do a refit on the place and maybe a coat of paint .

“The most grossly overpriced, shabby accomodation of all time. A complete rip off.”

This place does not deserve any stars. Exorbitant prices, reception staff off hand to the point of rudeness, broken glass in entrance door, no lifts to first floor bedrooms which were poky & dark. My advice: free camp if you can or better still, bypass Derby entirely and head for Broome.

“Pretty Tired”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

This was once a good hotel but several years of only doing essential maintenance has started to make it look shabby. Starting with the driveway which is broken and cracked cement through to the rooms which have mismatching tiles, cisterns, wash basins, etc. and the pool which is clean but the pool area seldom seems to be cleared of palm fronds. Meals were OK but inevitably there was always something missing from the buffet which you had to ask for. Sometimes it could be rectified immediately but the coordination at breakfast time meant that you had to have your bacon and wait for the eggs or vice versa. The problem in Derby is that there didn't seem to be much better to choose from which probably is why the owners don't see the need to renovate the place.

“The worst in derby”

Horrible, simply horrible from the thumb-tacked "art" to the duct taped repaired glass front doors. Service reprehensible, rooms creepy and smelled like urine. Maintenance has been back burnered and the kitchen is oily, greasy and filthy. Food bad, pool cold and we simply couldn't wait to get out of here. Save your moneyand go to the other hotel in town.

Also internet only worked in bar...which blasts tv over jukebox.
