“Loved the B & B”

This was our 3 rd long weekend at Pinebrae and we have looked forward to our stay more & more each year. The owners, Charlotte & Allen are very nice and the whole area makes us feel very comfortable. Good conversation at the breakfast table also. After this trip we have decided to purchase land and in the near future - 3 to 5 years - plan to "retire" in Rutherfordton.
The B & B itself is NOT a Holiday Inn. TV is limited, and just relaxation is the order of the day. I don't even get a newspaper while there - a good book does just fine.
The breakfast is great and a wonderful way to start your day - but you will need to "hike around" to burn off the Eggs Benedict! Not for everyone but if you want "peace & quiet" it works at Pinebrae.
The area offers beautiful sights with mountains and lakes and good food is easy to find.

“Charm from another era”

Visited Rutherfordton recently with family and, as most accomodations were booked due to sporting events, decided to go the B & B route. Good thing as our stay, although brief, was comfortable and we felt well taken care of.
As the other reviewer mentioned, Pinebrae Manor is a bit dated in some areas...i.e. bathrooms, wallpaper, etc. However, there are beautiful four poster beds in large rooms with high ceilings, crown molding, and lovely old family portraits. Upstairs there is a large study/parlor with wood paneling, book lined shelves and big comfy sofas and chairs. It had a bit of an English country manor feel and was a nice gathering place for the family.
We were offered the blueberry pancakes, but, decided we needed a bit more substatial breakfast, so the owners prepared a country breakfast that was out of this world. Fluffy biscuits (and we are biscuit snobs! They have to be good to impress us!) grits, sausage, bacon, jams, fresh fruit and coffee. The owners joined us and made us all feel welcome while engaging us with their other guests. As I mentioned above, we felt very well taken care of even down to fresh brownies waiting for us upon our return the night before. I recommend Pinebrae Manor.

“The breakfast is worth the stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2006

The rooms are a bit dated and need updating, but the amazing breakfast makes it worth the stay. If you can, request the blueberry pancakes - they're paper thin and melt in your mouth.
