I wanted to address the gentleman who stated below that you shouldn't bring your wife or girlfriend there if she's "picky". In my opinion, you shouldn't bring your wife or girlfriend there if she's got ANY STANDARDS whatsoever.
I made the reservation online a couple of weeks before arrival & paid $57 including all taxes & a pet fee. I have AAA & received a discount for that reason.
I can say three nice things about my room, however.
1. It "smelled" nice.
2. The bathroom, although aged, was clean & fresh.
3. There were no bed bugs.
The pics on the website, I feel, were not truly representative of the property in its current state.
I knew we would be arriving later than check in, so I had my daughter call & confirm to reservation, due another reviewer of the hotel saying that the hotel had given away his room. My daughter was treated very rudely on the phone, so it wasn't a nice first impression.
We arrived just before 8pm & I was checked in by a nice young man with great customer service skills.
It appeared to be in a sketchy area & I was hesitant about leaving the U-Haul in the parking lot. There was a large group of people "hanging out" on the stoop of the Knights Inn across the parking lot.
The hotel seemed pretty booked with families & several had pets, which was nice to see :)
Upon arriving in our room, I noted that it smelled good, of cleaners. I'm usually immediately put off by fake cleaning chemicals because it's usually attempting to mask a nasty odor, but this was pleasant. Although the bathroom was dated & there were only two towels for three known guests, it was very clean & I was HAPPY about that.
I also noticed that, although this was a non-smoking room, there were several spent matches around the floor. The housekeeping staff also forgot to clean the coffee pot & left the filter & grounds in from the previous occupant. Unfortunately, they did not replenish the coffee, creamers & sugar, either.
My dog got some jumbo fleas, but I'm happy to report that there were no bedbugs.
The WiFi was "only available in certain rooms". Too bad for me, mine wasn't one of them.
The carpet was gummy under our feet. And while I said that the room smelled nice, the whole room had a *very* "dirty" feeling.
Which brings me to the sleeping accomidations. The bed was completely unsleepable. I drove more than 16 hours that day & was completely exhausted. On top of being worried about the neighborhood & my property (car & Uhaul) outside, the bed was hard as a rock with no fitted sheet. Which meant when you turned (& I certainly did a LOT of that!) you ended up with a ball of sheets underneath you. I woke up several times that night in what I would call agony, waiting for morning to come.
At 4:30am, I could no longer take the torture & decided to get up & pack. I felt safe enough to leave my children in the room while I walked our bags out to the car, which was still there (so was my UHaul) YAY!! I also felt reasonably safe walking to the car by myself, the property was well lit.
By 5:30 I was ready to go & went to check out & get some free breakfast. I was greeted with "donut holes", warm juice & coffee & a sign that said that the "breakfast" must be eaten in the lobby. I passed on breakfast.
I got a very shady feeling from the owners, especially the man.
In defense of the property, the sign out front with the discounted rate does say Sunday-Thursday & for "AARP & UP". The people who were disgruntled & checking out in front of me went outside to take a pic of the sign, but removed those pieces of the sign that DOES say their conditions to the discounted rate before they took a pic of the sign so that it looked like they were trying to be deceitful of their rates. The conditions of the discounted rates is also stated in a giant sign under the Super 8 sign.
I was checked out quickly, but I found that when I got home I had been charged twice for this horrible room. I have been in phone contact several times, with promises of "finding out what happened" & no one has done a darned thing about it. I am happy I paid with my Amex, & the second charge is now being investigated by them.
I feel that if you're going to review the hotel, you should give an honest review... and this is what I observed during my 10-hour stay.
I would absolutely NEVER stay at this property again. I would not recommend this property to anyone. I would also warn people of what *I* think are unacceptable about this property & why I wouldn't recommend it to them.
I would have been very upset if I'd paid anymore than $57, as it's definitely NOT worth one single cent more.
