“To be avoided!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2008

Well, the problems spotted out by the other reviews are pretty much the same as we found: horrible food, lots of noise, sometimes aggressive stuff (but I appreciated the fact that when the director was around-and he pretty much was, as there were many complaints-things kind of started to move). Noise was coming also from within the hotel, not only from the street. Plus my friend, who was single and sleeping with his ears covered not to hear the noise, was stolen all his belongings by somebody who entered the open window-it was open because there's no air con!
Would have been fun if I was 15, so teenagers, go to Lloret del Mar!. The whole resort is like an international youth camp. Ah, and the beach is very crowded!

“The Pits”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2008

Book thru Quick Rooms-half bord-the food was for me awful-what wasnt eaten during lunch was dished up for dinner.

CHIPS - for breakfast-Bread rolls that you could snap your teeth on,
The staff were rude and you got the feeling that they didnt like the English people - example - I went to the dining hall 30 mins late one night-Sat at my usual allocated table and the head waiter came over and said "you" and montioned me to get up-I did so and followed him to another table in the corner facing the wall !!!

He was like the Gastapo..

I managed mainly on the same ole salad everynight and coulnt wait to get round the corner and into Burger King,

Beach was lovely -weather was good altho had a storm one night that shamed the monsoon,

Predominantly Spanish German and French orientated
Ther was only about 20 British in the Hotel,I vivted Malgrat one day and the Dutch owner began ti tell me how the Costa Brava would rather not have the English...blah blah-Well I never would of guessed >>>

For me..it's stick with Tenerife -Majorca

Altho Caletta Palace at Platja D'Aro was completly different and a joy to stay in-if i visit Costa Brava agin-that is where i will go.

  • Liked — Bidet
  • Disliked — veiw was the back of the kitchen and the smell of fish etc wafting up

“Hotel Villa Garbi, Lloret De Mar, Costa Brava”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2007

Date: 21st September 2007
Just returned from a short break to Lloret De Mar, Staying at the Hotel Villa Garbi. First impressions were that the hotel decor seemed to date from the seventies and was never updated. Our room also suffered from the tiny ants as mentioned in a previous review and we made sure that our cases were closed when on the floor. The bathroom taps and shower head looked like they needed some limescale cleaner as they were covered in muck and I noticed the bathroom lightswitch was actually in the bathroom itself and not outside it. I am sure for health and safety reasons this was wrong due to the steam and water etc. Our four year old sun crawled under one of the beda and came out covered in dust, which seemd to make sense as the cleaner was mainly spotted having a smoking break. We went half board and found the food ok if a little boring. Firstly the cereals, now if you like coco pops then great because that was the only choice. On the evening the drinks, including water had to be paid for. We used our own drinks instead. Also, it would have been great to have a tv in the rooms to keep the kid entertained instead of having to use the downstairs television or "smokers" room.

I was amazed how the swimming pool managed to avoid ice formation as it was that cold and used other pools nearby for the remainder of the holiday.

All in all we paid half board at a price that other hotels offered for self catering so we got what we expected. We stopped at another hotel prior to this one for one night due to getting a flight a day earlier than requested and would have stayed there had the rooms been available for the other nights. That hotel was one star and put the 'two star' Villa Garbi to shame.

On the plus side the Hotels location is great for shops, the beach and entertainment, though we will not be stopping here again.

“Not too impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2007

The hotel facilities were very basic which we kind of expected as our holiday package was admittedly a cheapie. All amenities in the hotel/ room were as you would expect. However, we did not expect to be sharing our room with a colony of ants which would entertain us during the night, trailing around the room, over our beds (whilst we were in them!) and in and out of our cases. Our friends, who were in a seperate room at the other side of the hotel also had an ant problem, so this obvously isn't an isolated thing. I walked out onto the balcony on the first night only to notice a definate downwards slant, I didn't risk going out onto it again! The staff in general seemed fine. The worst part however was the food. We were half board and slept through our breakfasts which, after sampling the evening meal, was no big shame. The lack of choice was shocking and the quality of what was there was awful. Nothing on offer seemed to go logically together to form a complete meal A typical example was my first meal which consisted of cold, soggy broccoli, chips, pasta tubes and cold rice from the 'salad bar'. There was some funny looking fish too (which I avoided) which seemed to make a suspiscious appearance on the second night, looking slightly more dried up than before (hummm??)!!! We felt sorry for anyone who 1, was there for longer than us or 2, paying for full board (oh and you had to pay for drinks - even water!). God help those who both situations applied to!! On a more positive note, the hotel is ideally placed for the beach and the local nightlife which, in our case, was what we were there for so, as long as we ignored the ants and ate out (and drank lots), we were happy (ish).

  • Liked — Convenient location for beach/ nightlife
  • Disliked — Food, ants, dust balls under the bed
