“Owners invested money in the wrong areas”

Chose this hotel due to the website and easy location via Ryanair(Girona). We were shocked when we arrived as the area is terrible and there is absolutely no land with the hotel. It is basically squashed between other cheap hotels(though the exterior of the Alva is not better than others). On arrival they do a smart thing and bribe the kids with a present.
Room is nice-very luxurious with lot of small gimmicks which are impractical(who needs a set of visting cards printed with my name showing the hotel address???!!).B+O TV/Tel with no instructions how to use the equipment...2 double beds..next to each other..(makes no sense). The view from the balcony is of another cheap hotel block.
Breakfast is from a menu(all included) but you have to sit indoors which is not the reason we come to Spain on holiday-big %age of staff speak very little English. This is the ONLY restaurant which is pathetic for an expensive hotel-there is an alternative..a Japanese restaurant which has 3 tables only, costs €200 per person and no kids allowed!!!In the evening there is no place one can sit outside and enjoy a drink except the "Japanese Garden" which is just a terasse area(to reach leave the hotel and then walk up from another buiding!) which has someone who barely speaks English..there is not menu..we asked what cocktails were available but he couldn't answer!
Pool area...small pool-you look at the buildings surrounding you.Staff though everywhere in the hotel are extremely polite and try their best.Kids Club terrible-2 young girls who barely speak English and absolutely do nothing with the kids themselves.I had to remind them twice to at least write our room number down-they wanted no signature!!Shocking! We let our kids there twice each for an hour and then they pleaded us not to leave them there anymore. The Spa area seems nice but ridiculously expensive compared to much better hotels. No indoor pool(except the one in the Spa which costs €100 per person to use and no kids!).
The beach is one of the worst one could see...dirty,packed with budget holidayers.
The hotel was never full...except weekend when many Spanish would come for 2 days so at the pool area ther was no chance of getting deckchairs if you arrived after 11 a.m.90% of the people staying were Russian.I feel the staff is better equipped in Russian then English. We were phenomenally disappointed to have spent a lot of money for poor holiday-what was a i thinking when i booked this hotel! The hotel would be okay with a lot more land in another area-Lloret is an area which is quite shocking-full of teenagers where the point is to drink and eat the maximum for the least money-to find a decent restauarant was almost impossible. Its okay if thats the holiday one is looking for but i wasn't.Compared to this area Mallorca is a paradise

“The most amazing experience ! Best hotel in Catalunya...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2006

I stayed with a group of 20 people for 2 days at the Resort and we had the most amazing experience!!
If you look directly at their Web site ... you will discover incredible pictures .... Well, let me let you that the reality is even nicer than the web site.
The bedrooms are small appartments (with lounge, dressing...) with the coolest bathrooms ever (huge shower, jacuzzy bath, tons of towels, bathrobes etc.)... Their decoration is luxurious, and you just feel "at home" from the first second you enter them.
If you get tired of it (...) you can always enjoy your own big terrasse...
The swimming pool is also very nice and big.
There is a menu for the morning breakfast ... and you can start your day with a spanish tortilla, a foie gras toast or the best zuccini soup I have ever had (all for the same price).
Not mentioning here... the lovely english china and silver cutlery they use.
We also all benefited from the Molton Brown Spa ... and went in the Princess Bath (CRAZY!!) ... and our only regret is that we could not stay longer
Very important also, the personnal of the hotel is very discret and professional. The service match the quality ot the best palaces like the George V in Paris.
Last but not least ... if you want to do a small tour of the town or find a little bay to stay for the day ... they offer you courtesy small smart cars that you can drive ...

Conclusion: i highly recommend it ... a once life experience

“Fabulous Hotel - strange location”

What an enigma!

This hotel has the best of everthing and is an interior designers dream.

The room was superb and the service excellent. We have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and this one rates really highly.

But, why oh why did they build it here? Surrounded by tacky apartment blocks and restaurants selling fish and chips and full english breakfast (all day).

I you want a hotel near the beach with a fabulous spa and great service and don't want to venture outside then this place is great.

It seems a real shame to criticise the owners for the location, no expense has been spared and they have created a terrific oasis in a less attractive area, it isn't cheap but I thought it good value.

“Over priced luxury - in awful location”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2005

I booked to stay in Alva follwing its inclusion in two luxury travel company brochures. Despite the location on the edge of Lloret, I had assumed that the "resort" in the hotel's title would mean that there would be some insulation from the worst of Lloret! I was wrong!

The Alva Park resort and Spa has been developed as a first class hotel, the redecoration and styling of the hotel has been done to the highest standards. What is bizzare is that it is just a single block in an extremely built-up area of Lloret, and is surrounded by appartment blocks which are closer to two than five star! At approx 500 Euros for one of their standard rooms - this is just not appropriate!

They charge extra for a sea view, which once paid for you lear that the sea is actually just seen through a gap between the (tatty) apartment buildings.

The pool has been beautifully designed - It is just a shame that you are looked in on by all the neighbouring appartment buildings.

The children's club looked beautiful - and it was one of the reasons that we booked. It was just a shame that we were not allowed to take our son in to enjoy it!

Tha babysitter provided by the hotel looked closer to our son's age than our own - Not good for the 18 Euros and hour!

The hotel was virtually deserted when we stayed, and it wasn't low season. Maybe others had realised how over priced it was for such a grotty neighbourhood!

If the hotel had been set in grounds it might have been worth the price, but given Lloret is one of the tackiest resorts in Europe it is not!
