Stayed for three nights whilst visiting my sister and parents who live 10 miles up the road from Lloret in a somewhat more Catalan town. Staying in Lloret has it's advantages as you can get relatively well appointed hotel accommodation even if in season your fellow visitors may rank high on the extroversion scale. Out of season a lot of the commercial activity dies down and you are confronted with a slightly depressing image of shuttered shop fronts and closed restaurants and bars. January seems the worst month and my short stay in December revealed one or two favourite stop-offs were still open. All of which is a preamble to saying the Guitart Monterrey rather reflected the December mood in Lloret in that activity was conspicuous by its absence. This is a big hotel with quite generous bedrooms [I had two double beds to myself], good bedroom facilities and efficient staff. However the long empty corridors with their never opening doors gave the hotel a Kafkaesque quality and my only viewing of the restaurant which was largely empty somewhat reinforced that.
The location is a quiet one behind the new casino. The weather was cold whilst I was there and the hotel location didn't encourage the walk between hotel and town. All of that would of course need rethinking with better weather in season. I got a reasonable deal on-line paying between £50 and £60 a night for the room. Breakfast which I avoided in favour of pintxos in one of my favourite bars in town cost 16 euros; I was also promised a garage charge of 16 euros a day which thankfully didn't materialise. Given the cost would probably have been the same if my wife was with me I would consider the hotel again for a similar price. It is certainly one of Lloret's better establishments and offers a good degree of comfort with a nod in the direction of luxury. In season I would probably avoid Lloret altogether!
