Stayed 10 nights from Oct 16. Buffet still excellent value (108rmb for inhouse guests), tried the new Casa Ramada buffet which is same price but food not of the same quality. Thankfully now the restaurant is completely non-smoking. Front desk staff very helpful as is housekeeping and room service. Gym still tired and bereft of equipment but had a great head and foot massage in the Spa.

The Brewery (bottled beer 35rmb, micro-brewed 48rmb/pint - can recommend the pilsener) still popular though Alice's Bar has reopened under a new owner and near the Ramada is a new bar called Rossie's - the name of the Aussie owner.- 25rmb a bottle. Coopers (many varieties) is the only Aussie beer available itself but they have Heineken etc.

Big competition next year when the Shangri-La opens - will see how they respond

I have stayed at this hotel at least 6 times the past 4 years. It has improved quite a bit over the years, front desk staff now have reasonable language skills. Gym is OK , but sauna/spa area excellent though this area costs extra to enter. There is now though an Ibis Hotel that has opened which may attract the expat visitor.

Breakfast is quite OK, and the big plus is the nightly buffet - it is excellent value at 108rmb including beer. Only a block or 2 from downtown. Bar and nightclub in hotel very quiet - if you are an expat in town head for The Brewery in the 1912 Bar Area on a bend of the Grand Canal.

I've stayed here a few times now. As usual the staff are friendly and helpful. From my limited experience of the food it seems adequate. The rooms are clean and reasonably well appointed. Sufficient for most business travelers I would suggest. Certainly this is not a flashy hotel but certainly should meet the requirements of most people.
