We stopped for the night on the way home from Florida as it's cheap and close to the highway... our first impression was that it's very basic, but would be ok for the night.

We were in a non-smoking room, but the smoke in the hallway was horrible and the room stank of cigarette smoke, when I turned down the blankets, the pillow had a bunch of hair on it and the sheets were dirty (not stained, but had dirt on them!). My husband went to the front desk to get new sheets, but while he was gone the smoke smell became unbearable so I packed up the kids and left the room. We went to the front desk and explained this all to the clerk- he offered to change our rooms but I declined so he gave us a refund with no problem (I have to say, the clerk was the only decent thing about the hotel!).

There are a tonne of hotels near this one- we spent a few dollars more and got a beautiful room about a block away.

On a family trek from NY to Florida, we were looking for a pet-friendly room for one night, and booked this place from the road.

I don't know where to begin. The walk from the (bulletproof glass enclosed) lobby to our room was like running the gauntlet of strange characters and smells ranging from raw sewage to cigarettes to worse than you can imagine. I've never been to a crack house, but I imagine it would smell something like this hallway.

Once in our room, which was surprisingly acceptable, there was no hot water. There were several commotions started in the hallway. We then noticed that the door to the parking lot was not secured - the card-key lock had been broken, so all sorts of people were walking in and out.

About a half-hour later, my son was thirsty, so it was back down the smelly hall to the soda machine to buy a bottle of water. As I opened my door, a police officer walked in through the parking lot door. He kindly told me to "have a nice evening." I could not think of a more impossible task at the moment. We could hardly wait for sunrise to make our departure

Now I know why my GPS more or less REFUSED to lead me to the Motel 6 in Roanoke Rapids NC! My first clue should have been the 1" bullet-proof glass all around the front desk... that and the $35 room rate for 3 people and pets! Weird smells, dirty, torn sheets, all types of stains on the rugs... what else could be wrong! Even though the front desk clerk was friendly... the free coffee they gave us? Why bother... after all, you can only drink so many 4 ounce cups of coffee, right? Would you recommend this hotel to a friend? Well, maybe an enemy!

Stayed here one night because we were tired. We had styed here before but it had been a while ago. When we walked in the hotel the smell of smoke was terrible. Even if you get a nonsmoking room you will still smell it. The sheets were so bad I went to Walmart to buy a set of sheets. After the change of sheets, lots of fabreeze and Lysol we went to sleep.
