“charming hotel in the middle of pinehurst”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

Stayed for one night for a weekend getaway with spouse. Old hotel with a famous bar.
We had a corner room on the 3rd floor, very spacious. The rooms are old and outdated, but that is the charm of the hotel. Old style television, but with the village to explore you will not need to watch television. There is no elevator, but steps to 3rd floor are not difficult. One advantage of the third floor is that you are away from the noise of the bar late in the evening. Dinner and breakfast were included with the room rate. Both were excellent. Went to Dugans pub in the evening for a live band. Good atmosphere and a pretty busy bar scene. Dugans is only a two minute walk up the street. We walked the village during the day and visited the little shops. Southern Pines has more shops to visit and is only a ten minute drive away. Make sure to visit the Pinehurst golf clubhouse to see all the old pictures on the walls. The Pinecrest Inn is a great place to relax and venture back to a slower pace. Make time to sit on the front porch and just unwind.

“Excellent retreat, getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

For the past decade we have been visiting the Pinecrest Inn once or twice a year, usually for a one-night weekend stay. We have never been disappointed and have always felt welcomed.

Although it has been a Pinehurst golf tradition for almost 100 years, it is equally frequented by non-golfers (like us), social groups, families, and locals. It is unobtrusive and not pretentious. It has a relaxing feel. The bar is a mecca for locals and guests.

The food is well prepared; selection is wide and portions are generous. Our favorite entrees have been the lamb cutlets, the tenderloin (filet), duck and prime rib; the 22 ounce roasted pork chop is a specialty. The relish tray, soup, salad, entree (with two vegetables), and dessert are almost overwhelming. Breakfast (also included) is excellent as well. Many locals regularly dine and entertain there.

A key to enjoying the Pinecrest Inn is enjoying its surrounding communities. (1) Check out the nearby Seagrove pottery area. High quality pottery (about one hundred potters) has been coming from here since the 1700s. (2) Explore Pinehurst Village... shops, Dugan's Pub (watch a game) , stroll through the Pinehurst Inn, go to the Pinehurst Country Club (home of world-famous Pinehurst # 2, frequent host of the U.S. Open) ; stroll through the neighborhoods and the 35-acre arboretum; visit the World Golf Hall of Fame. (3) Drive 4 miles to downtown Southern Pines, which offers a wide variety of shops on each side of the railroad track...shoes, clothes, books, restaurants, green merchandise, knitting, hiking/outdoor, Sunshine Theatre.

“Loved the hotel...except for our room :(”

We booked a room at the Pine Crest for our anniversary. We live about an hour away and wanted a quick get-a-way from home and our little girl. The Inn is really pretty, has tons of character. Breakfast was awesome, great staff too. BUT, our room was terrible! The receptionist even said "let me see if we have a better room...nope" So, when we got upstairs and saw our room we were really disappointed. For over $200/night it was not at all what we expected. The saddest thing was that on Sunday when we checked out all the golfers had left early, and the cleaning crew was on our floor, so we peaked in at 4 other rooms and they were spectacular compared to our room. So, if u go, make sure u don't stay or pay for room 301!!! Laura

“A little rustic but a super golf hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

As of Jan. 1, 2010, "no more smoking" inside N.C. bars including the Pinecrest Inn which was the big downside. The hotel is not 5 diamonds but it is 4 thumbs up. Historical, rustic but relatively clean and comfortable rooms, great place to come back to after a good day of golf. Fun bar, good food, extermely reasonable, good service, and great location and atmoshpere.

“Pinehurst at it's Best!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2010

Having lived in Pinehurst for close to 20 years, I have always put my friends up in this wonderful place. There is no friendlier bar staff on the east coast, for an after work libation or a night of fun. For ladies considering a place for a girl's weekend you will be treated like a lady by all of the staff, and there will be no shortage of conversation in Mr. B's lounge. Food is always good. And all the Pinehurst shops are just a block away. Don't stay anywhere else. If you truly want to experience Pinehurst, and the wonderful people who live there, you have chosen the right place!
