“Good For Golfers, Lively Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

In good location for group of golfers but wouldn't stay here with wife.
Fun (but noisy), good central location.
Older hotel with charm but not a lot of frills.
Rooms are average, beds can be small (single) depending on room.
All rooms come with breakfast and dinner.
Food was good and service fast.
Lots of cigar smoking and drinking at night.
Lots of locals come here.

Room Tip: Ask what size beds they are giving you. All rooms are different.

“Great value, comfortable rooms, ample food portions and friendly service”

Friend and I went to play golf in Pinehurst. We signed up for the "stimulus package" special for 4 days/ 3 nights where twin share room, breakfast, dinner, round of golf and all taxes and charges was $111 per person. The room was a bit old but had character and was a comfortable size for 2 big guys. The food servings were very filling and delicious. Choice of 3 golf courses (Firefox and Southern Pines were much better). Staff were very friendly and I would definitely go back if I had a chance (not likely any time soon unfortunately as I live in Asia).

“don't bother....Terribly disappointing....!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

We made our reservation at the last minute and now understand why they could accommodate us! For $111.00 per person per night (to include dinner and breakfast for two ), we honestly expected more.....

The place seemed like a fire hazard! The lobby is dark and dank..... Very old place that has not been updated!
There were two window air conditioners in our room that made terrible rattling noises and blew either frigid or warm air. There were exposed pipes in the ceiling and walls that had been painted the same as the wall/ceiling color. The deadbolt on the door did not make us feel very secure....
Barely enough room to walk around the bed in our room.
Bedding was terrible...mattress was thin and lumpy; sheets were thin and pilled! Bedspread was ancient! Pillows were either too thin limp foam or rounded, lumpy foam!
Bathroom was reasonably clean, but very old fixtures. Towels resembled thin sandpaper!
Carpet was very old and tan/brown colored... Could not have been very clean.
Flat screen TV was plopped on the dresser in front of the mirror.
The closet had some hangers, but they all seemed like leftovers from someone's dry cleaning.
There were no toiletries (lotions, shampoos, etc), there was no hairdryer or robe; nor was there an iron or ironing board.

Dinner was not served due to a power outage so they had told us at check-in that we'd get a credit on the bill upon check-out for the dinner charges. Well, they gave us a whopping $24.00 credit....

The only positive rating we can give is the location....very near the center of Historic Pinehurst Village.

“charming hotel in the middle of pinehurst”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

Stayed for one night for a weekend getaway with spouse. Old hotel with a famous bar.
We had a corner room on the 3rd floor, very spacious. The rooms are old and outdated, but that is the charm of the hotel. Old style television, but with the village to explore you will not need to watch television. There is no elevator, but steps to 3rd floor are not difficult. One advantage of the third floor is that you are away from the noise of the bar late in the evening. Dinner and breakfast were included with the room rate. Both were excellent. Went to Dugans pub in the evening for a live band. Good atmosphere and a pretty busy bar scene. Dugans is only a two minute walk up the street. We walked the village during the day and visited the little shops. Southern Pines has more shops to visit and is only a ten minute drive away. Make sure to visit the Pinehurst golf clubhouse to see all the old pictures on the walls. The Pinecrest Inn is a great place to relax and venture back to a slower pace. Make time to sit on the front porch and just unwind.

“Excellent retreat, getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

For the past decade we have been visiting the Pinecrest Inn once or twice a year, usually for a one-night weekend stay. We have never been disappointed and have always felt welcomed.

Although it has been a Pinehurst golf tradition for almost 100 years, it is equally frequented by non-golfers (like us), social groups, families, and locals. It is unobtrusive and not pretentious. It has a relaxing feel. The bar is a mecca for locals and guests.

The food is well prepared; selection is wide and portions are generous. Our favorite entrees have been the lamb cutlets, the tenderloin (filet), duck and prime rib; the 22 ounce roasted pork chop is a specialty. The relish tray, soup, salad, entree (with two vegetables), and dessert are almost overwhelming. Breakfast (also included) is excellent as well. Many locals regularly dine and entertain there.

A key to enjoying the Pinecrest Inn is enjoying its surrounding communities. (1) Check out the nearby Seagrove pottery area. High quality pottery (about one hundred potters) has been coming from here since the 1700s. (2) Explore Pinehurst Village... shops, Dugan's Pub (watch a game) , stroll through the Pinehurst Inn, go to the Pinehurst Country Club (home of world-famous Pinehurst # 2, frequent host of the U.S. Open) ; stroll through the neighborhoods and the 35-acre arboretum; visit the World Golf Hall of Fame. (3) Drive 4 miles to downtown Southern Pines, which offers a wide variety of shops on each side of the railroad track...shoes, clothes, books, restaurants, green merchandise, knitting, hiking/outdoor, Sunshine Theatre.
