“Couldn't be better”

We were traveling south along the outer banks doing some island hopping and using the NC ferry system. But when we got on Ocracoke Island we discovered that due to a boat inspection we could not get off the island (going south) until the next morning. So we randomly selected to stay at the Captain's Landing. It's about 30~50% higher than other hotels, but Karen at the front desk and the view from the room is more than worth the extra cost. We liked it so much we delayed our departure from Ocracoke Island for 3 days. The rooms are clean, spacious, and you can drop a stone in the water below. This place defines relaxation and beauty.

Room Tip: Second or third floor has the best views

It's all be said; just a bit differently.

Room Tip: Either plan way ahead, or travel off-season as I did and have the good fortune to stay here.

“A Shining Star On Ocracoke”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We just spent 3 nights in a 2nd floor queen suite and it was lovely. The location is beautiful and when we looked out our huge sliding glass windows, all we saw was the gorgeous blue bay, tip of the lighthouse, otters (who cuddled up under our window on the dock to sleep at night), pelicans, flocks of migrating birds and perfect sunsets. We were in room #204 and it was spacious and spotless. We used the kitchen one night to make dinner and it had everything you could possibly need. The owners and their staff went out of their way to make us at home. They have a terrific movie library that we helped ourselves to nightly. The price was surprisingly reasonable. Ocracoke is such an incredible place and The Captain's Landing just shines.

“"Amazing Stay"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

After living on the coast for 26 years I finally decided to take a little trip to Ocracoke. I called around to several places and finally made my choice to stay at Capts Landing and so glad I did. Capt George and his staff were very friendly and make you feel at home. We had a wonderful lady walk us to our room and go over everything with us that we needed to know we were not just handed the keys and told have a nice stay it was much more. The room we stayed in was so amazing, clean, compfy and the VIEW oh my the view as we walked out on our extra large balcony we could see the whole harbor not to mention the beautiful light house. The bed felt great and we had extra pillows in the room just in case we needed them. We also had name brand coffee some places carry cheap coffee not here:) The weather was cold and very windy but the sunset was stunning. Since the weather was not so great we actually could sit in our room open the sliding glass door and enjoy the sound of the water and sailboat flags blowing in the wind. Our bedroom also had a sliding glass door to the balcony so you could lay in bed and wake up to the beautiful harbor and sun rise. The staff and Capt George here are so wonderful and I can't wait to return if you are looking for a quiet, clean, well kept property I would highly suggest you stay here.

“Beautiful Suites On The Water, Sunsets....Professional/Friendly Owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

My wife and I have visited Ocracoke many times for day trips but had never stayed on the Island.

So, after considerable research, Captains Landing was our first choice and we were lucky to book one of their 11 large suites. The suites are located directly on the water (only hotel that is DIRECTLY ON THE WATER).

They have immaculately maintained two room suites (with double, separate-room, vanities), beautifully furnished (furniture looks new), with very soft bedding and all have full kitchens and large balconys. There is also a large private dock for guests who arrive by boat as well as complimentary bikes for each suite!

The owners are two of the nicest, friendliest and most professional hoteliers we've ever met. Aside from their standard duties, when we had mechanical problems with our small plane, they mobilized half the Island on a Sunday afternoon to help us out. The Island's plumber helped remove the battery from my plane and the local electrician figured out how to charge an aircraft battery with a golf cart, all under the watchful eye of the owners. Numerous other business owners also played into finally finding the full solution.

We have never seen such neighborly attitudes anywhere in our fairly extensive travels. Note: The staff (not related) were sincerely helpful and appeared very loyal to the owners.....a very telling, if rare, trait.

For those who have not been to this Island, it is serene and peaceful, with a fantastic historical and nautical flair...about as far from Myrtle Beach type atmosphere as possible, thankfully. The beach here is consistently rated high in cleanliness and visual beauty...Dr. Beach has given it "Top Beach in the World" designation more than once...and is easily accessible by bike from the Village. Numerous good, reasonably priced, restaurants are abundant on the Island....we liked Pony Island best for breakfast and Dajio's/Howards/Back Porch for dinner and lunches.

Also, the Island fish market is less than a block from the hotel so one night we had fresh fish, cooked in the suite by my wife with a bottle of wine on the large deck watching the sunset.

Needless to say, we'll be back to stay (possibly bringing a reunion as well) and will give this establishment the highest rating possible to family, friends and business associates.

Room Tip: You can drive and take a ferry from three different locations, arrive by private boat or airplane.
