We booked this resort thru RCI for 3 days over Memorial day weekend. The resort has several condo complexes all together and Sand Castle Village II is where we stayed. We were impressed with how spacious the unit was - it has 2 bedrooms plus a loft area with 2 more twin beds - plenty of room for our group of 5. The common areas - kitchen, dining, and living room - were roomy as well. In addition, there was a large laundry room that includes a big jacuzzi, and a very nice private deck that looks out over the pond. The kids enjoyed feeding turtles and fish in the pond, and some people were fishing there. We enjoyed taking the walkway around the pond, and thought the deck was very nice and peaceful. The unit was well-equipped with everything we needed and included coffee filters, dishwashing detergent, shampoo, hairdryer, etc.
The only complaint we had about the resort is that it is older and could use an update in the furnishings and especially the linens. The indoor & outdoor pools at the rec center seemed small. There was a small putt-putt course behind the rec ctr that they charged just $1 to play - our kids enjoyed that. Plus, there was a play set that we did not use, and some open area there that people were playing frisbees, etc. I saw 1 room at the rec ctr that seemed to have a lending library of movies, but we did not rent any. The condos do have a DVD player. We did not try the restaurants on/near the resort but there was 1 restaurant by the marina and a pizza restaurant very nearby. Also grocery store within 5 miles.
We took a trolley tour in New Bern (not that fun for kids) and a tour of Tryon Palace. We also drove to Atlantic Beach one day.
All in all this fit the bill for a low-key, pleasant stay.
