“Will not return...poor service, strange odors, and an "oceanfront view" of a parking lot!”
My husband and I traveled to Nags Head for a wedding two weeks ago. We chose to stay at Nags Head Inn because it was just steps from the wedding venue. When we arrived, there were two women at the desk. One woman (Anna, I believe), was very nice and asked us for an ID and credit card. The other woman at the desk said at that time, "you know not to ask VIP's for their credit card, right?" Well, I am obviously not a VIP, but that was still a very rude comment to make right in front of me. What a way to start out a trip by having one of the desk clerks say something like that to make you feel unimportant. When we got to our room, it smelled heavily of air freshener, and once the air freshener settled, the room took on a sweat-like odor. We got an oceanfront room, but really it wouldn't have mattered if we had gotten a street view because when you step out onto the balcony, the first thing you see is not the ocean, but a huge parking lot. I am just glad we were only there for one night, because I would have been devastated to have had to stay any longer than that.We will not be back to this hotel.

First let me apologize for the misunderstanding at check in. The “VIP” that was mentioned when you checked in was the name of a group that we had that weekend – The NC Lions VIP (Visually Impaired People) Fishing Tournament. The local Lions Clubs put on a fishing tournament each fall and we try and help out by providing rooms for the some of the participants and the many volunteers that come to help out. It is the world’s largest fishing tournament for the blind and visually impaired. (Please see their web site www.ncvipfishing.org)
I am sorry that the room was not to your liking. When the hotel was built we were required to have a buffer zone between the building and the ocean which is why the hotel is situated as it is on the site. All of our oceanfront rooms regardless of floor have a 180 degree ocean view.
