This hotel has seen better days - inside and out, public places and the rooms. However, like I mentioned in the title, if management/owners continue to make renovations, the hotel will be quite charming.
We stayed one night on the second floor. Even though we could see the beach just fine, I bet the upper rooms had way better views. We did have access to outside, but it was not a balcony, rather, a sidewalk that connected to the large public deck and pool area. The pool, by the way, had a sign on it saying it was closed due to the hurricane that came through this past summer...didn't matter to us, as we stayed in November 2011. Our room had many new upgrades: carpet, countertops, furniture, fridge/microwave, room curtain, linens, towels (still had the "inspected by" sticker on them), and a toilet that was perhaps only a few years old. The shower/tub was dated, and the ceiling tiles were odd and were obviously an afterthought, as they looked like they belonged in a public area (and were unfinished in some areas). Also, the walls were in the middle of being painted with holes patched but not painted over yet, etc. The room was clean.
The interior hallways, front desk, and elevator areas all had signs of renovation in process (complete with a ladder, buckets, etc.). The breakfast room was nice with newer furniture, plenty of space, and a fantastic view of the ocean. Breakfast choices were better than average, with a few hot items (waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage), cereal, juice, fresh fruit, oatmeal, coffee, etc. The breakfast staff were nice and helpful. The front desk staff was helpful with allowing us a generous late check-out time.
I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget, yet need something better than Motel 6. It is not the Hilton, but it's a nice place.
