“Renovations are helping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

This is not a luxury hotel, but it's OK for a weekend getaway if, like us, you only use the hotel to sleep in. We've stayed here for a few years because we use our rewards points for free nights' stays. We like the location and the view. The renovations have much improved the rooms; ours was clean and comfortable, but there aren't many amenities. Attention to detail is lacking; for example, I used the tea bags in the coffee area the first night but they were not replenished the next morning by housekeeping. The hotel was full for the holiday weekend and we couldn't get near the breakfast area, but we really wanted to go out for a big breakfast anyway. We always go in the off season, so I can't tell you about beach access, etc., but it is oceanfront. I wouldn't want to stay here for more than a night or two.

Room Tip: Views are great from the 5th floor, where we stayed, but the wait for the elevator was quite long.

“Should have paid attention to negative reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We decided to risk an overnight stay despite reading many negative reviews, MY BAD... Hotel is in REALLY bad shape. However, they are in the beginning phase of a MAJOR overhaul. May make it back to being a 'standard' Comfort Inn once again.

Our 2nd floor room overlooking the parking lot. Came with a king bed and jacuzzi tub. The room itself was clean. Fridge compressor stayed on constantly and actually seemed to get louder as the night went on... Wireless internet was a plus.

Room Tip: If you risk staying before renovations are complete, at least request a higher floor room with a vie...

“If renovations continue, this will be a nice place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

This hotel has seen better days - inside and out, public places and the rooms. However, like I mentioned in the title, if management/owners continue to make renovations, the hotel will be quite charming.

We stayed one night on the second floor. Even though we could see the beach just fine, I bet the upper rooms had way better views. We did have access to outside, but it was not a balcony, rather, a sidewalk that connected to the large public deck and pool area. The pool, by the way, had a sign on it saying it was closed due to the hurricane that came through this past summer...didn't matter to us, as we stayed in November 2011. Our room had many new upgrades: carpet, countertops, furniture, fridge/microwave, room curtain, linens, towels (still had the "inspected by" sticker on them), and a toilet that was perhaps only a few years old. The shower/tub was dated, and the ceiling tiles were odd and were obviously an afterthought, as they looked like they belonged in a public area (and were unfinished in some areas). Also, the walls were in the middle of being painted with holes patched but not painted over yet, etc. The room was clean.

The interior hallways, front desk, and elevator areas all had signs of renovation in process (complete with a ladder, buckets, etc.). The breakfast room was nice with newer furniture, plenty of space, and a fantastic view of the ocean. Breakfast choices were better than average, with a few hot items (waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage), cereal, juice, fresh fruit, oatmeal, coffee, etc. The breakfast staff were nice and helpful. The front desk staff was helpful with allowing us a generous late check-out time.

I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget, yet need something better than Motel 6. It is not the Hilton, but it's a nice place.

“This place needs to be demolished and rebuilt”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

This is probably one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed. I am sorry, but I would never go to this hotel ever again. I booked the room last minute to take my wife, who was pregnant at the time on a little get away. The location is absolutely gorgeous. The view from the outdoor area is breath taking. The beach itself is beautiful. Sadly, the hotel is run down, dirty and not very well maintained. The balconies are wet from the AC unit and they leak down on other guests. The rooms are not very clean and extremely dated. It's better to rent a house on the beach.

“Oh My!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We booked this property for a brief visit to the OBX for our anniversary. My work schedule only permitted one night stay, but as it turns our that was fine. When we arrived and found parking spaces almost non-existant we wondered what would happen later in the evening.

The lobby is not terribly attractive, but this doesn't really matter to me. The elevators were beaten up and dirty looking inside. When we got to our floor (Four) we noticed the lights were on the floor and they had obviously just painted. It was a large empty area with two windows that did allow a great view.

We started down the hallway and I was shocked, knowing what we had paid for this room it was in shambles. Now we only live 2 hours away and were quite aware of Irene coming through, but thought if they had this much damage they would have mentioned it when you were booking and maybe offer a "storm damage" discount. Our room luckily was fine. The carpet had been replaced, and all the furniture and linens appeared to be new. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great view. However if you opened the door to the patio you had a heck of a time getting it closed again. The same was true of the bathroom door, you had to put your shoulder to it to close it....much appreciated in the middle of the night.
The towels were clean but dingy, the bathroom had a lingering urine smell, and the floor had a large rust spot by the door.

When we left for dinner it was dark and we were surprised to see just how dark the elevator area was on our floor. I understand it was just painted, but MAYBE putting the lights back up MIGHT have been a good idea.

When we returned from dinner there was NO WHERE to park!! My husband finally MADE a spot for himself by parking between two trailers. I mentioned this to the lady at the desk and she just said "yeah, that's a real ongoing problem" and then walked outside to smoke her cigarette. Total disinterest!

Breakfast the next morning was okay, but the coffeepots were empty more than they were full and no one seemed interested in addressing this issue either.

Room Tip: Ocean front is great.
