I have stayed a the Bryson Inn probably six or eight times over the past 15 years. The owners have done a good job of keeping up the property. The rooms are clean and well maintained. There is a refrigerator in the room, and they've added nice LCD TVs, and easy-to-clean tv remotes, (which tells me they are congnizant of traveler's concerns- sanitation.) And they've added free WiFi.
The breakfast if kind of lacking. I look for protein foods, and in typical American continental breakfast fashion, there is none (packets of homogenized peanut butter don't count.) They do keep a basket of fruit out at all times. Nice.
The hotel location gives easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Airy, and Interstate 77.
Overall, a good value. Not the kind of place you want to hang around at all day. But a nice base for exploring the area.
Note- This is a motel, not a hotel (rooms open to an outdoor balconey.) This is not an issue, just thought I'd point it out so there no surprises.)
