“Big room. Decent Value.”
We arrived at the Best Western Bryson Inn in Mt. Airy, NC on 08/15/11 for one night's stay while traveling to NYC. The place had a number of trucks parked in the lot and is adjacent to a farily large truck stop, so we assume it's popular with truckers for a decent night's sleep.
We were booked into Room #231 which was on the 2nd floor in the back of the motel. The room was huge an included a refrigerator an microwave. Bathroom was small with sink & vanity oustide the bathroom door.
The ice machine was inconveniently located by the pool, a substantial walk across the parking lot.
They offer continental breakfast in a small area attached to the lobby and have 24 coffee in the lobby itself.
Even with light occupancy the night we stayed there, the maids were lined up outstide to service our room as soon as we cleared out for an early start.
The accomodations were serviceable and the value was decent.
The description mentions 'resaurant attached,' but it's really a truckstop next door down the hill. There is a sourthern-style diner across the road at the top of another substantial hill (is is MOUNT Airy, after all) as an alternative for meals. The main town is about 4 miles away and has the standard fast food and chain restaurants.
The downtown itself is a delightful little town, which was the birthplace of Andy Griffith and bills itself as "Mayberry." It certainly meets the definition of a friendly, southern town with lots of local souvenir shops, crafts shops, and other sorts of mountain themed stuff available, as well as ubiquitous Mayberry memoabilia. There is still plenty of the "real deal" Mayberry vibe around and a morning walking around proved to be a pleasant experience.
