Long story short - we drove for 7 hours and arrived at 1 a.m. We discovered ALL of the hotels were sold out with the exception of Microtel Suites. We weighed the option of driving another 20-30 minutes to Pilot Mountain and decided Microtel would be just fine. We were greeted with a warm welcome and offered a room by the ladies at the attendant desk. They were very nice as was the manager. We paid a higher rate than we normally would have (no surprise there for a Friday night and every other hotel in the area is sold out). Anyway, the hotel is older. We got a smoking room - not by choice - it was one of the only "suites" left. The room was big and the sheets were clean. The room had a microwave, refrigerator (that probably should be replaced), and an in-room coffee pot. There was no hair dryer on the wall; however, the front desk was able to provided us one. Can't complain about the towels - plenty of those. The shampoo and conditioner come in packets - 1 each. The bathroom also had a lot of mold on the ceiling. No, It is not the Ritz Carlton but we knew that going in - our only interest was finding a place to sleep. We did not eat breakfast nor did we use the pool. If you are looking for a place to sleep and you don't mind a smoking room, then it will suffice. The only other point I might add - is that if you are a light sleeper, the trucks along the highway may interfere with your sleep - you may want to ask for a room in the back of the hotel. The manager is extremely nice and works a lot of hours. He greeted us when we arrived and checked us out when we left.
