“This hotel was just fine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

The Sleep Inn in Morganton met our needs. The people were friendly, the room was clean, and it served its purpose for us. If you want something fancier, there are more expensive hotels in the area. We were there for a family reunion, and just needed a place to sleep. There was no bathtub, which was surprising, and the shower head was a bit low--I am 5 feet 6 inches, and the shower head cleared my head by about 2 inches. I only mention this as a note for someone who may be tall, who would have to scrunch down to get your head wet--could be annoying. Free breakfast was OK, nothing special.

“Fair warning!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2009

I will preface my review by stating that we are a part of a travel baseball team, and we are in different hotels on a monthly basis. This is the first negative review that I have ever felt compelled to write.
Our trip to this hotel started in March, when I first called and made reservations. Because we were coming as part of a baseball team, for a routine baseball tournament that occurs regularly in Morganton, we made the reservations for Friday and Saturday, until we found out if the Friday would be nescessary. On the Thursday before our stay, I called to cancel the Friday night, because they were not playing early Saturday morning. When I called and spoke with Todd, he reconfirmed all of the information that I had given before, reconfirmed the reservation, and sent me another confirmation email. All was set and ready to go. Saturday came, and we headed out for Morganton, around 10:45 am. After the games and dinner, my husband went to check in, and they said he had NO RESERVATION!! He promptly called me (I had driven back home) and asked me what was up. I got out the confirmation information and shared it with the girl at the front desk, who said, bascially, that they had had a question about our reservation, and had tried to CALL ME AT HOME THAT MORNING, BUT DIDN'T GET AN ANSWER AND SO THEY CANCELED THE RESERVATION!!! Seriously!! I said to the girl, 'you did not call me this morning, because I was home, but if you did call me late morning, of course I did not answer, I WAS IN MORGANTON!!!! So, the problem at that point was that they had only a single bed room left instead of two doubles, so I told her she would need to contact another hotel, and find them a room. At this point she told me that there were not many hotels in Morganton, and that they would not be able to find them a room. Finally, another family on the team said that they had been given a room with two beds, and there was only two of them, so they offered to trade rooms in order for the guys to have enough space.
Wait- it gets better......so, they guys head to this other room, and found that it had no air on (it was 88 degrees that day) and- I hate to say this, an unflushed BM in the toilet. SOOOOOOO DISGUSTING!!!
Wait- it gets even better......the next day, the hotel manager, "Ann" calls me again, at home (thank goodness I was there this time!!) and says to me "I understand you had a problem with the hotel last night?" and I told her that of course we had a problem. She stated that she wanted to know what she could do to fix it, and I told her that they had done NOTHING to help our situation last night, that we were only able to resolve the issue because we worked it out with another person in our party, and that there was nothing that she could do now, THE DAY AFTER??? She did state that the front desk was supposed to find another room for them at another hotel, like I had suggested, and, after much exhausting heated discussion, she stated she was going to give us a 10% discount on the room. Really. I made sure she knew that I was an avid TripAdvisor fan, and never booked a hotel without much research, and that I would be sharing this experience with this site.
I hope no one ever has the same misfortune of having to stay at this hotel.

“Exactly what we expected …”

Has this Sleep Inn seen better days? Absolutely.
Can you find more ‘luxurious’ place nearby? Possibly (there is a HI next door and Hampton across the freeway)?
Can you find a better place at the price? Hardly.

Sometimes you just need a place to sleep, shower, relax in front of TV plenty of viewing choices, place that is basic, yet clean, convenient and affordable. And that’s exactly what we got after a long day on the road. Clean, comfortable room with great TV selection, friendly staff, exceptional price. The place is convenient to shopping, restaurants, (two shopping centers 2 miles way) close to freeway exit, easy to find. The breakfast was basic and OK for one day.

One word of caution though. This place is affordable and busy and that can also mean noisy. The soundproofing is not the best so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. In our case we were too tired to notice.

The bottom line: would I stay here again. If I would get the same price, yes; otherwise I would try the HI or Hampton.

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2008

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay after touring part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We drove up to the Sleep Inn and got a really great rate for a Saturday night. The room was very clean and comfortable. The air was already on when we got in our room and it was nice and cool. That was a nice touch. I had no trouble connecting to the wireless internet and the speed was above average. The room and furniture was in good repair and the staff was very nice. The desk clerk took pride in the cleanliness of the place and she gave us a very good recommendation for a nice place to eat. We tried her recommendation and the place was excellent and decent priced! This is a really nice, clean place to stay without breaking the bank! Much cheaper than staying in the immediate Asheville area.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, Nice staff, above average high speed internet, great price
  • Disliked — Nothing

“Not bad for the price!”

My husband and I recently traveled to Morganton for a last-minute event and wanted an inexpensive place to stay for one night. In general, we were pleased with the Sleep Inn. The location was good; the room was clean; the bed was very comfortable; the staff was friendly. The free "continental" breakfast was only okay, but that was to be expected.

There were two things I didn't like: first, there was a shower but no bathtub in our room, and I am a real bath person; second, the carpet in the room had that slightly "slick" feeling of carpet that's been walked on too many times and won't ever be the same again despite repeated cleanings.

Even with taxes, we spent only a few pennies over $50, so it was a good cheap deal. If I were ever to be in Morganton again for just one night, I'd probably return to the Sleep Inn. If I were there for a longer stay, I'd probably spring for the Hampton Inn or something even nicer.
