“A Total Dump- Stay Away from this place”

We arrived in Morganton and chose Days Inn based upon our past experience with the chain. My husband checked us in, but he did mention that he couldn't understand the English of the lady at the desk. We've encountered this at different locations and didn't feel that was an issue. We had not made reservations as this was just an overnight stay. We went to our room. It was one Queen bed and it was the shabbiest looking room I've ever laid eyes on at any hotel/motel. The carpet was worn and dirty looking. The walls were peeling and stained. The lighting was extremely poor. There was some type of black stuff growing around the base of the bathroom door. It was 32 degrees outside with an expected overnight low of 20. There was no heat in this room. The blowers on the heating system only blew cold air. There was an electric space heater placed in the room. It was not a room we were going to stay in. The looks of it made you wonder when something might crawl out of the walls and attack you. I don't say this to be mean. I say it as a true warning. This place was bad, really bad.

My husband and I returned to the front desk and explained the problem. The lady said 1 single bed room has heat. I asked for a refund on our credit card. She did not know how to do this and the manager was not in. She tried to call him and the phone kept instructing her not to dial 1 or 0, but she did not comprehend. We were in the process of calling the credit card company via our cell phone when the manager returned. He promptly credited our card with no questions asked.

We went directly next door to Sleep Inn. The hotel was nice and the staff extremely friendly next door. We were given a discount because of our encounter with Days Inn. We were told we were the 5th person this week whom had complained that there was no heat at the Days Inn.

We have written to Days Inn corporate and asked them to investigate this particular Days Inn location. No one should be expected to spend money to stay in such a unclean and unhealthy environment.

“Not so great stay”

We got there and they had our reservation-no problem. Could barely hear what the man was saying behind the plastic but we dealt with that. Went to our room to discover and a clogged toilet. Not just clogged with toilet paper--but other stuff as well.
So, back to the desk again. We got another room. The toilet worked in this one, but we had dirty towels and the blankets and pillows on the bed looked 20 years old. The pillow cases were very wrinkly.
We are planning a move to Morganton and have to spend a few more nights in hotels and this one will most definitly not see us again.

“An Honest Review of Days Inn-Morganton”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2003

I stayed at the Days Inn of Morganton for 2 days while visiting friends in the area. First of all, they claimed to have "lost" my reservation and put me in a smoking room that smelled like an ashtray. The room was decently heated, but the curtains, sheets, carpet, and bedspread were really worn-out looking, like it had not been replaced in years. The TV did not work either. I talked to a strange older employee (maybe the owner?) about the problems in my room, and he was very rude and short with me. He said to just go back to my room and "get over it". I have nothing against foreigners, but this guy was over the top.
Security was not very good either. I saw and heard people driving through the parking lot all night, and saw some suspicious characters hanging around. Fortunately, they stayed away from me-I got a knock on the door at 2 AM but did not answer it (they went away).
My wake up call was an hour late, which was not cool. The desk clerk acted like she had just been hired yesterday, did not know anything. No free breakfast, and the "coffee" tasted like muddy water. Not a good stay overall, but if you just need a flophouse kind of accomodation for cheap, this would fit the bill.
