“this is the worst motel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2010

first dont go by the pictures whatever you do, there was my husband and our 2 kids they are 4 and 3. we walked in and knew we made a mistake, there was 2 towels and that was all told we werent allowed til morning to have more, then we went to ingles off exit 103 and bought 409 and colorox bleach to scrub the mildew and mold off the tub and the drain was covered in putty and so was the toilet, so to give my kids bath i had to let them stand up and scrub them, then we mopped the floor and scrub the tub around it because there was dirt on the floor, then the bed my kids slept in was covered in cigarette burns and pee stains. then i wanted to use the phone and they told me our phone doesnt make outside calls, it had burnt holes on in, the we wanted to use the refirg and it had black mildew on it, then the light next to our bed, the socket was just hanging, and not to mention our contential breakfast was honey buns i am sorry this is the sorriest excuse for a motel and i have all reciepts and my room number was 116 we stand saturday and left sunday. dont stay there the pictures do tell lies, wanted to save a few dollars dont because i am to tell you its not want it thinks

“Extremely cold.. heater wasn't on when we arrived made res. earlier in the day and the room never got warm had a terrib”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2010

The room never got warn had to double up in bed and still wasn't warm... when you make res. I think the room should of been heated before you arrive. Any other hotel that we had stayed at had the heat on. miserable.... as far as it being clean what can I say.

“Don't stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2009

When I deliberately book budget-class accommodations, I don't expect much. But especially in today's competitive tourist market, I expect my money's worth. I did not receive that at the Plaza Inn. Check-in was somewhat challenging as the proverbial plexiglass window did not allow effective communication with the clerk (even though it was before 10 pm in a good area). Rooms were what I expected them to be, but both were in need of minor maintenance (burnt out lights, water faucets about to fall off). Neither was exceptionally clean; one bed had some sort of grease streak under the pillows. The advertised continental breakfast consisted of stale coffee and two grocery store brownies, hardly adequate to begin with let alone for the group of six whose lodging I paid for. Stay elsewhere...the few dollars more you'll spend across the highway will be worth it.

“Dirty!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2009

Location was convenient. Fridge and microwave in room. Booked online despite previous dated reviews because it advertised that pets were accepted. Upon our late night arrival, we were greeted with a large sign that said "Absolutely no pets allowed on property! If noticed, you will be asked to leave!" Our room was dirty!! Some sort of food on floor under desk. Toilet seat visibly soiled. Hair in shower drain. Faucets difficult to operate. Sheets on one bed were stained with something. My kids slept in their clothes on top of the blanket! All of the other hotels in the area were full including the only other one that advertised allowing pets. We had to book 2 nights, but left after the first one. No clock in room, No hairdryer, no internet, no coffee pot. We had travelled a long way, were very tired and checked into this. Next time I'll take heed of the warning reviews, despite the date!

“A Total Dump- Stay Away from this place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2007

We arrived in Morganton and chose Days Inn based upon our past experience with the chain. My husband checked us in, but he did mention that he couldn't understand the English of the lady at the desk. We've encountered this at different locations and didn't feel that was an issue. We had not made reservations as this was just an overnight stay. We went to our room. It was one Queen bed and it was the shabbiest looking room I've ever laid eyes on at any hotel/motel. The carpet was worn and dirty looking. The walls were peeling and stained. The lighting was extremely poor. There was some type of black stuff growing around the base of the bathroom door. It was 32 degrees outside with an expected overnight low of 20. There was no heat in this room. The blowers on the heating system only blew cold air. There was an electric space heater placed in the room. It was not a room we were going to stay in. The looks of it made you wonder when something might crawl out of the walls and attack you. I don't say this to be mean. I say it as a true warning. This place was bad, really bad.

My husband and I returned to the front desk and explained the problem. The lady said 1 single bed room has heat. I asked for a refund on our credit card. She did not know how to do this and the manager was not in. She tried to call him and the phone kept instructing her not to dial 1 or 0, but she did not comprehend. We were in the process of calling the credit card company via our cell phone when the manager returned. He promptly credited our card with no questions asked.

We went directly next door to Sleep Inn. The hotel was nice and the staff extremely friendly next door. We were given a discount because of our encounter with Days Inn. We were told we were the 5th person this week whom had complained that there was no heat at the Days Inn.

We have written to Days Inn corporate and asked them to investigate this particular Days Inn location. No one should be expected to spend money to stay in such a unclean and unhealthy environment.
