“fantastic stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Morehead City, NC for the night of October 29th, 2011 in room 436 with my wife and two young kids. Perhaps we didn't have particularly high expectations but the stay was fantastic. The lobby had complimentary hot coffee and condiments; the rooms had free wifi (though the bandwidth wasn't high enough to stream Netflix movies at high resolutions) and wired connections, plenty of power outlets, soft fluffy towels, complimentary soaps, shampoos, conditioner, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, king (or maybe queen?) sized sofa bed and a TV for each room (there was a dividing wall (without a door) between the rooms). I don't, however, recall seeing an in-room safe. There was an outdoor pool which we did not use due to the cool weather and what looked like a relatively large workout room. I seem to recall seeing a business center but didn't use it. The free breakfast buffett was one of the better ones I'd seen: it had ham and eggs (separate) for the hot food, ready to cook yourself waffles, as well as your standard pastries, bagels, breads, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, milk and juice (and coffee out in the lobby). The hotel was about a < 10 minute drive from Beaufort, where we were visiting the Maritime museum (very good by the way) specifically for their Black Beard/Queen Anne's revenge exhibit. The room also had an AC/heater for each room which probably made it more pleasant. The lamps all seemed to be the CFL bulbs which didn't bother me, but also had outlets on the base of each lamp for easy access to power. The bed seemed to be relatively new and free of divots on either side. Overall, this was a great stay...I'm only afraid that because this seems like a newly renovated hotel with new management, the quality we experienced might go downhill, but time will tell. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: I read on another review that the rooms furthest from the elevator were better - perhaps quieter...

“3 Stars if not for Customer Service at checkout”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Being by the beach, any place is subject to higher incidence of mold...but you ought to stay on top of that expecting it! There was mold build up in the dark crevices of the shower/tub. It's obvious the cleaning staff just didn't feel like going that extra mile to clean in the crevices. The bathroom has been updated, but it was sort of a band-aide type update. Not a gut it all out type redo.
Hampton Inn is supposed to have clean bed linens, but one of the duvet covers had a suspicious yellow stain on it.
My room was very close to the front desk and was at times noisy when people came and left.

I didn't complain. I needed my rest. The beds were a bit lumpy, but perhaps that is a pillow effect of the mattresses? I was albe to sleep...that is, until 3:14AM. That's when the TV just decided to turn itself on and wake me up. After fumbling around for the clicker and finally getting the TV to turn off, it was a bit difficult to get back to sleep.
In the morning I informed the somewhat stand-offish desk clerk about the incident of the TV and that I wasn't very happy about that. She feebly appologized, explained a previous guest must have left it on alarm mode. and went about her paperwork. Which only aggrivated me more. I then proceeded to grab myself a cup of coffee for the road. When I turned around, "Patina" was standing there smiling with a revised statement showing that the room was comped for the night. Yay! Made my stay all the better, and I would even consider returning for a night in the future.
There was a steak and Seafood restaurant right in the front of the parking lot that is separate (as well as a Taco Bell). It was very good. Customer Service made it.

Room Tip: If you seek quieter rooms, ask to be placed in a room at the end of the hall

“Good place to stay, but there's not much for competition.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Had to stay here for work purposes. The stay was fine, the room was clean, and the amenities were satisfactory. The folks at the front were very friendly and offered suggestions for good eating places close by.

Only gripe is that I don't think the room is worth what I paid for it. Part of it is because there isn't a lot of hotels in the area, which I find to be a little weird considering the close location to the local beaches. Also, costs will be higher because it's close to the beach, and I'm well aware of the economics of supply/demand. Again, can't complain about the stay, but I've been able to stay at places that were just as nice for less.

On our way from SC to the Outer Banks we had booked one night at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and we felt welcome as guests. We needed to cancel some reservations made at another place in NC due to hurricane Irene, and when Debbie (sp?) at the front desk understood that we only had European cell phones she right away helped us calling the hotel from their phone. The hotel is well placed with a nice view. The room was very nice and clean, good beds and nice bedding. The bathroom was also clean and well equipped, I love having a good choice of soft towels. My partner loved that he could walk down the parking lot to Taco Bell, his favorite fast food :-). Breakfast was good, waffle maker to have fresh waffles, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts etc,. And as always at the Hampton Inns, a choice between regular and robust coffee. We prefer the robust and appreciate that we can have a free cup any time of the day. Free internet in the room that worked well. Good size fridge and microwave in the room.

“Great hotel for a quick trip to the coast.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Reserved a room for a last minute trip to the coast. Fortunately the Hampton Inn had a vacancy. Clean, everything worked, staff was VERY nice. Good location, very pretty view at the pool, which was also nice. Would stay there again. Slept in, so we did not get a chance to hit the breakfast, but can say the area looked nice and clean.

*There was a good restaurant accross the street - Snappers. Went to dinner there on Saturday. Food was good and appropriate for families.
