This was our third stay in 5 years and as usual it was delightful! The staff is friendly, helpful, & knowledgable not just about the surrounding parks & cities; but also about the variety of cultures & the arts. They really treat you as though you are a part of their family.
The hotel itself is kept very clean with the beds and bathrooms done each day even after you tell them not to worry about them. The beds are pretty comfortable & even though the hotel is an older place it's full of modern day ammenities like wireless internet connection, cable TV, & in room mini refrigerators. Rooms are decent size & you have plenty of room as there are a couple of chairs next to each bed to sit and watch TV if you prefer that to sitting in bed, there is a dresser to put your things in and a good size closet. Hope you prefer showeres though...
As far as location... you look out the window to see heavenly sites... the mountains (as we usually come in October) filled with a plethoria of colors. Last year we got to see snow-capped mountains which were phenominal to this South Louisiana Girl! There are several benches & swings on the grounds for you to sit & view all kinds of sites or read or just be... The hotel is right outside of the park & is actually right before you get into the valley or the actual strip that's considered to be Maggie Valley (city) It's so quiet and peaceful away from the hubbub of even a tiny town like Maggie Valley. No commecialism... just friendly folks from around the country, friendly & helpful staff, and quiet peace along with beauty beyond words...
When my husband & I think of the Smokey's... we automatically think... Abbey Inn. Try it.... you won't regret it!
