We stayed here the last night of their fall season (they close for winter after the first weekend in November), and even though most of the leaves had fallen the view was still beautiful and the inn was lovely. It was much too chilly to take advantage of any outdoor activities, but there's a large fireplace in the main lobby--perfect for playing checkers (they have tables set up), reading, and sipping a cup of coffee.
Don't expect cookie-cutter hotel chain rooms--this place has old school charm with dark wood paneling and hand-painted swiss murals behind the beds. The bedding appears to be new, and the bathroom also seems to have been updated. The rooms are quite large. If you were traveling with friends or kids, you could comfortably fit a couple cots or pack-n-plays in the extra space. I did notice that we could hear more of our neighbors than we might have liked, but that's my only complaint.
The restaurant on the property was great for dinner, ho-hum for breakfast. Yes, dinner is a little pricy, but, the meal was hearty and unique (I had a cranberry chicken dish and my husband had the bourbon glazed trout) and the ambience was wonderful. Besides, what else are you going to do on top of a mountain?
Make sure to walk into "downtown" and visit the quaint general store and bookstore. Perfect blustery afternoon shopping.
Room Tip: Choose a mountain view if possible, though I think all of the main lodge rooms have balconies.
